On maintenance cleaning its a gardiners extreme medium mixed.

And on dirtier windows it's the super lite stiff bristled white brush.

Both with fan jets.  ;D

For georgian sash windows you need a Xtreme medium mixed  it is easier to flex the bristles and get them cleaned with ease .

I normally give the glass a quick pre rinse before i touch it with the brush this ensures you can get the top of the window nice and clean . Mike

Gardiner Xtreme medium mixed & I don't clean the top frame of any window. 60-70% of my work are georgian sash!

Once you master not cleaning the top frame you can clean anything without issue, look back through my 3.5 thousand posts & see if you can find any where I get "issues" with WFP results!! ;D

I don't clean the tops of frames either, apart from a few upvc windows. I found rinsing on the glass at the top and not touching the top of the frame stopped any problems I had with leaky seals, or leaky windows, I never had a problem doing this.

How do you get away without cleaning the top frame?
Surely it gets mucky after a while.

Surely it gets mucky after a while.

On stained or darker frames, it doesn't really notice, on white painted frames, by the Time they start looking grubby the paintwork has deteriorated and started to look grubby as well so again it doesn't really notice.

On upvc frames that I know are ok, I just clean them when they start to look bad. I did the top of some openers on some downstairs windows this week that I have only ever cleaner once three years ago, they did look pretty bad, so I did the tops of those first then when I had finished I cleaned the rest of the glass below them so they did cause a problem.

I used to do the same, but a few months ago I changed to doing the top frame of everything, every time. On frames that I think might drop down I clean them as normal, doing the top frame, then after I've done the windows next to them I give them a quick rinse again just under the top frame.

I'm not going to say I get perfect results every time, ( no one can say that) but I never get complaints, and on the windows that I also clean the insides of the outsides come up great, and my own windows look great doing that too.
