Help With Carpet Stain (Image)
« on: November 18, 2013, 04:11:27 pm »
Hello, I've recently left a house and in order to keep deposit I must get rid of this stain, I believe it may be either cigarette smudges rubbed in? I'm not too sure though as I believe it was there when I moved in, but rather than disputing it I'd much prefer to just clean it and try and recover deposit! Any advice on the easiest way to clean/get rid would be great! Thanks in advance

Hi Terry

The carpet has degraded and is not cleanable.

This was almost certainly not caused by you.

Cheers

Thank you for the reply, how would I go about explaining this to my Landlord as I'm sure it won't be very easy?

Looks like a polypropylene loop these carpets are pretty stain resistant and it would probably be worth your while getting a local pro in to clean it for you. It is not a very expensive carpet probably about £6 sq yd anyway. These carpets are widely used in the rental properties.

Not cleanable!?!?

How do you come to that conclusion?

It does look like a polypropylene and an everyday type general clean to me. Its only un cleanable if its burnt in some way but doesnt look like it

Yeah I believe it is that sort of carpet, the only problem is I'm absolutely broke at the moment and only have til Thursday to rectify it, it's definitely not burned. Just wanting to avoid the Landlord getting in an overly expensive carpet cleaner or even replacing it and charging me for labour.

So what is an overly expensive carpet cleaner and how much is it worth to you to get it sorted

How much will you lose if you don't get your deposit back?

A pro wont cost as much as what they will take out for a new carpet (although they will probably leave it exactly as it is for the next tenant). If you have a receipt for work done then you can argue the toss that its fair wear and tear and thats what landlords are able to claim back like any business.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

It would probably cost less than 5% of your deposit to get it cleaned, we know what you want is a cheap easy fix but it really depends on what the staining is, though it should be straight forward. Get a pro in your area to give you a quote, most won't charge for this, There'll be plenty in your area and you might also try TACCA http://www.tacca.co.uk/region/nottingham/

Im trying to see whatever Doug saw ? ...   sure the blackness should come out no problem ...  as long as its scorched flat also ... there are a few 'gaps ' in a couple of spots which could be damage  .... its hard to tell .

Hi Guys

My eyesight isn't as good as it once was but it looks like there has been some sort of damage to parts of it.

I know there is also dirt which can be cleaned but I think there is an underlying problem.

Cheers

To remove a stain, simply blot the spot and dry working from the outside in, rinse thoroughly with clean water, then blot again. Never scrub the carpet, or you risk ruining the carpet fibers or letting the spill soak through to the carpet pad.

To be honest this is where a Chest Of Draws used to be, it seems from the photo during inspection a lot of the furniture has been moved. I'm pretty sure I didn't make these stains and have asked the Landlord for photo's of the room before hand yet no reply on that, bit ridiculous tbf, I'm tempted to just pay for a plot of carpet and be done with it, just hoping he doesn't charge for labour haha

We get upwards of 30 enquiries to become members per day they have certain checks but with a genuine email address with location how else can you police new members? Who's to know who is a carpet cleaner or a window cleaner etc as wc do ask questions on the carpet forum.
