Yep I was a lucky boy -  I always thought I was way under .
All these with BERLINGOS , daddy's etc are cutting it very fine .
Well I've sorted it , pick my T300 up Monday and then refit the system Friday .
So Monday 25th I will drive past the weigh bridge several times !!!

A serious subject this and I'd advise everyone to get weighed .

Yeah Franky, totally agree with you, I have mentioned payloads and gvw's on this forum and a few times on others, but nobody seems interested (until they get stopped anyway!.
I have a transit connect 230 and a 500l diy system. Went over a customers weigh bridge a few months back, with a full tank, got a bit of a shock when it came up 2000kg, only 40kg less than my gvw!.
You clearly cant go by the quoted payload so the only way to be really sure what you can carry is to go to a weigh bridge.
On another forum, whilst discussing this issue, there was a post from a guy with a van the same as mine, but with a 650l system set up for 2 men, which by my reckoning would put him 200-250kg over his gvw.

I have a vollswagon caddy 1.9tdi 104 bhp

Gross weight 2210kg
Maximum payload 724kg

The maximum I carry;

400 litres of water  - 400kg
Driver and passenger - 160kg
Roof rack and ladders say- 50kg
30 litres of fuel- 30kg

Then I'm left with about 80kg for carbon poles, hose reel, leisure battery, bucket and squeegees etc.

In theory I should be ok. It would be first thing in a morning where I'm close. By late morning I've used a good 150kg of water.

Oy one way to be sure though and that's to put yourself on a Weigh bridge. Doesn't cost too much and you don't get fined etc.

Anyone with a payload of 700kg or less that carrys more than 400 litres of water you can guarantee your not legal at least early in the day.

In an Accident.....it would void our insurance as more weight means longer stopping distances etc.It's something we all have to think about and decide on.

I'm going to try get to a weigh bridge soon to make sure I'm under weight. Mayb I should go on a diet first too.

What about your water tank?
Is it made of fresh air?
That's another 25-30kg.

Going to a public weigh bridge tomorrow so we will soon find out. Might get a shock but at least I will know for sure. If I'm over then it will be a case of carrying less water and look to get a new van. I'm hoping I'm under my 2240 kg gross weight!

we have a 1200 lt tanks in our 280 and its loads to the eyes balls, that's why we a a billage pump fitted in the tank one flick of a switch it under weight in under 60 sec

Why do you need 1200 ltrs? 

we have just got a lot of offices on the same  site and we like doing them in one hit using three cleaners at the same time , we only fill it half way any other time keeping things close but just under the limit

I hardly ever speed, costs too much fuel. But even if I did, it isn't really comparable unless you are doing so recklessly. If you are using a full 1200l tank in a transit 280, it isn't just a little over, its a lot. Tyres will overheat, brakes wont cope very well, bearings or suspension components could collapse, the list goes on. If you are involved in an accident where there is some debate as to who is at fault and you are found out, you will get done and your insurance will be invalid. It really isn't worth the risk.

All joking aside there probably arent many trades were the van has to cope with max payload EVERY DAY  and that obviously will knacker the suspension quicker.  Thats why I doubt very much I would ever buy a wfp van, mind you beggars cant be choosers

Why waste all that water? Just pump it into the caravan instead.
