before and after photos of my van fiberglassed
« on: November 16, 2013, 03:59:40 pm »

This was after the fiberglass resin was applied, the lad who did it said there was no need for fiber glass matting as there wasn't much foot traffic and it wasn't open to the elements like a roof is.
We applied this last Saturday and it took 2 hours to dry because of the cold :o

this was after, we couldn't remove the tank as it is bolted through the chassis and the bulk head so we silicone around all the edges and gaps then put a Gel coat resin mix over the top.

Thanks mate and if you only use yhe fiberglass resin and top coat there is no need for a video you litrally just paint each cote on.
Read the instructions on how to mix resin with hardener and paint it on mate

So no water is going to get under the tank (the bit where water is most likely)

Why didn't you take the tank out first ?

Take it you used a roofer not professional fibreglasser !

I also own a boat building business so i know what im talking about,
and what he has done is a joke, wont last, total waste of your time and money (sorry)

Nice.
I had my last van fibreglassed.
Word of caution, where your rear fibreglass ends, really, really waterproof the end or water will seep back up under the ply.
Sanitary clear silicone should do it. Use more than you think you need.
Nice job though bud.

Why would he want to splash out on a professional fibreglasser ? This will do the job just fine, it's a van not a boat!

Right it was a favor with some left over fiberglass resin( and top gel coat?)
Secondly how can you say it wont last? It has 1 coat of the clear resin left to harden, then a second coat plus a gel ontop. All the bottom corners and gaps have been clear siliconed.
Resin and gel coat has been known to last upto 2 years then you sand the top layer off and recote it(wich is longer than protectakote)
Also the man who did it has done 3 training courses the application as he has to know how to use it because his job is selling it.

Small work load lol very rarely use more than 400L a day.
I know people who have had 800L and took it out for a smaller one mate

Ooh the situation with the tank... Its bolted right through the chassis and theough bulkhead so it was solid to try and get it out.
So i siliconed around it and its fine.
But to be honest how wet does a van actually get? I only did the shelfs to look good and the floor for drills, simply squeeqy it out at the end of the day
