Well done Danny. It gets a little easier after a few years as most of info has been submitted, just need to update some new examples.  We just got our third year accreditation passed first submission. Definitely a big plus on commercial.

Get intouch with Safe contractor worth having m8 it looks more pro and you go on a database for other companies to look at. Also you get money off certain things. They will help you through the questionnaire as its abit of a nightmare. Only downside it cost about £215 every year and you have to pay up front.

Only if you don't part with £215 quid

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

You will get it eventually as they are here to help you. If you do a fair bit of commercial I think it's worth having as some ask a out H&S and looks so much better if you have a certificate to chuck in with your insurance when quoting jobs.

Darren once you've paid the £215 squid you will get it but can be pain in the arse the first year of getting as the next year you can resend and just update your Insurance liability 😁😳😜😀

Darren,

If it's something you are thinking about there is some good guidance info you can download from the safecontractor website.  You've got to read into some of the questions a bit and some aren't relevant.  As Danny says you pay the fee and when you have submitted they will come back with clarifications if they have any.  You keep going till they are fully satisfied you are covering everything but the first year is definitely the most time consuming, each year gets easier as you know what to expect.

If you go ahead and have any questions, pop me an email as I'm happy to help.

my question is, does it generate work. i know you can't get some work with out it but does it get the "big players" calling your number?

You are guaranteed nothing, but it shows your commitment to H&S and that's paramount

I used to be safecontractor and found it a waste of money in the end. I only joined because a hotel chain i cleaned for said they wanted all their contractors safecontractor accredited. Then when a lot of contractors like their plumbers and electrical guys said they wouldn't join they changed their minds and let them carry on without it.  The scheme would be worth it if everyone who was accredited were only allowed to use accredited contractors, but unfortunately it isn't a requirement to and can still use anybody which makes it worthless.  Unless it has changed a lot since 5 or 6 years ago, you only had to provide examples of risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work, which you should send with every quote anyway.
