Liquid logic controller/Pump problems
« on: November 09, 2013, 05:02:47 pm »
I wonder if anyone can help.

I run 2 liquid logic from gardiners and 2 Shurflo pumps they have been working fine for a year but have suddenly stopped working.
The red ps switch is on and the blue light.

I thought it was the controllers so i bought new ones - same thing happened.

I disconnected everything and tried the pumps direct to the battery they both work fine.

Could it be the pressure switch in both pumps?

Can you use the liquid logics without the pressure switch on the pumps?

Please help this is doing my head in.

Hi mate

Ian sheppard is the man to ask!!!

Although i have a liquid logic (single controller)
I was under the impression you were meant to by pass the pump pressure switch as the controllers has one in built....
Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?

Mine uses both - if I set the dead end pressure too high then the pressure switch comes into play.
Sounds like you've got a blockage or a kink in the hosereel or blocked jets to me. Also check your strainer is spotless.

I am getting really cheesed off now!

There are no blockages, strainer is fine, pump works hard wired to battery.

Do these controllers work without the pressure switch in the pump as well as with the pressure switch connected?

Have you re calibrated the controller mate?

As the temperature drops electric controls systems can need recalibrating.

I would suspect that the calibration setting on the shut-off setting on the controller is set too low which is causing the PS to display and the pressure switch to activate.

It would be worth adjusting the calibration setting up by 5 or 10 points.

Thanks for your replies guys.

The liquid logic controllers are the analogue dial ones not the digital.

Does the calibration on these work only when the water is up to pressure?

Could be you've got the flow setting too high so the pump can't keep up with what you are asking it to do. Try backing the flow dial down a bit to about six or seven. Then adjust the pressure dial up a little if required. If the red light keeps coming on at dead end then it's the pumps pressure switch kicking in. You could I suppose adjust the pumps pressure switch as a last resort.

I dont think the pressure switches are working. I am going to order 2 new pressure switches.
I thought the controllers would work without the pressure switches but i seem to be wrong.
Varistream units work without connecting pressure switch but not it seems the liquid logic variety.

Hi Tristan apologies for the late response, not had chance to check the forums over the weekend. These controls are designed to work with a pump pressure switch fitted. The control does an electrical test to ensure that there is a a circuit. PS will display as a default if the control can not detect the pump.

Check the red cables that run the length of the pump between the base and pump head, Again check for any damage

I would also suggest checking the cables between the controller and pump for any worn/damaged/rusted cable or connectors replace and that are.

if the control is not able to confirm a circuit the pump will not run, for calibration to be adjusted there does need to be a water flow and pressure in the system.

I ordered 2 replacement pressure switch kits . Fitted today.

That was the problem!

works okay now.

1 Question does it matter which way the pressure switch wires are fitted(the 2 red wires)

Does anyone have the part number for micro switch replacement for future. Its bloomin expensive getting the full pressure switch
fitting kit!

Thanks for all the help and advice chaps.

It should not matter which way around they are connected as it simply completes a live circuit.
