Gutter vac- complete set up
« on: November 08, 2013, 10:48:25 am »
I am looking at buying a gutter vac.
I want it to go as high as possible (48'?).
I need a gennie.

and I want it all to be good quality.
I need it all asap.

Any advice on what to buy? with links please?

I dont want to put my own together, I want to buy one that will last.
I have looked through the old threads but there are many differing opinions.

Richy,

I know you said you dont want to put one together, but i just bought a vac from Kev on the hard floor section, and i bought some poles from - http://carbonfibretubes.co.uk/ as per Chris's info. Bought all the other bits and bobs from ebay. All in under a grand.

The vac and poles look sturdy.

There is a thread on the window cleaning section now and apparently some of the poles advertised are only 30% carbon, and not very strong. So if you buy a kit, be aware of what your getting.

As for the genny, a good honda would do you for life apparently. I got a 6kva loncin really cheap. its a bit bulky, but i dont use it much and its on a trolley now.

Mike,

It doesnt. It has the plastic cage type thing which the dust filter goes around when you want to use it dry but thats only there to surround the motors.

I am thinking of trying to build a small frame inside, something simple to sit a gorilla bucket on, drill some holes in the bottom, like chris scott suggested. to catch all the solid stuff.

I know you have been talking to Kev about some kind of basket he is using. I would be interested in this too.
Is it like a basket that slides inside the whole tank? and you can just lift it out and empty it? and all the water drains out the bottom?

Might depend on which vac it was?

I know what your saying Matt, but I need one for a job asap.
I want one that s good quality and will suck up everything, even big blockages.

I have a question though. How do you unblock downpipes?

We use Omnipole and been satisfied with them.

You will struggle with any gutter vac system on large blockages and unblocking down pipes.

It wont be much site work. I guess it would be better to have a 110 though just in case eh? the performance is the same though right? i guess I could use a transformer with it though right?

So what do people recommend for a system that will work well for commercial gutter cleaning?

Richy,

Go for carbon poles, That was the advice given to me. Go carbon from the start.

Haven't used my kit yet, but even if you need it asap, i ordered my vac from Kev on Monday, got it delivered Tuesday.
Ordered the poles Monday, Delivered Wednesday.
Ordered some 51mm hose and cuffs from Polarbrite Monday, Delivered Tuesday.

The stuff that's taking longer for delivery is the eBay stuff, Otherwise id be out testing the setup tomorrow on the
in-laws place.

Although i know what your saying about a complete setup, i looked at quite a few different companies, but i got piece of mind about the vac from kev, and had a chat with the guy i got the tubes off, and i couldnt find out much info about all the different vacs being offered with the packages.

Omnipole is quite a decent company i believe, not sure about all the others though.

Just looked at the omnipole set up. If your going to pay that kind of money, look at the skyvac. similar money, but you get carbon poles. Probably not as high reach, but you can always add poles i think at a later date.

Started with the omni set up with the alloy poles which was OK but the poles are heavy and the vac is - well. I now use carbon poles, silicone bends, an old CFM vac with a 6KVA Stephill generator and its a pleasure to use. The Omni power pole is really good as you can fit various spikes, hooks, camera and the hooked tube with a zero nozzle and a small pressure washer to unblock the swan necks on downpipes. My vac is heavy but I would like a lighter one with a pump out for when its raining. My present vac has a drop out drum which is ok to empty but I cannot see a problem in putting a bin bag over the drum and tilting / tipping it.  My carbon poles do 4 storeys sensibly but you would not get the telescopic alloy poles to do that unless your garth or 9ft tall

I am Kev from Tiling Logistics Ltd. You can get a nylon bag filter that the Germans invented that fits in the vac to collect the crap. However I think they are very expensive at some £ 60 each and I am not sure of them even though the German engineers tell me they spent ages and dozens of trials getting the right size of netting. They then tell me they are extremely difficult and time consuming to make. Because Matt bought the vac I am going to send him one to evaluate if he agrees. The Vacs I have every confidence in.  I ordered 6 last week and I only have one left. We have sold over 2000 of these Vacs  and my own personal ones are nearly 8 years old. The pump outs are sold to the German Fire Service and although we have only sold about 35 of the Vacs with the 50mm inlet as gutter Vacs we have not had a single complaint about them.
