Daily Mail article on cleaning your own carpet
« on: November 07, 2013, 10:29:19 am »
Not a paper I read but came across this article via Google.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1155613/Washing-liquid-beats-costly-carpet-cleaners-researchers-claim.html

It seems Which has conducted a test of various products for cleaning stains from carpet.  They have concluded that washing up liquid works well on blood, red wine & Ribena.  Often better than expensive products from the brand names.

Just to help there is a picture of somebody attacking a carpet with a bucket & sponge.

No mention of sticky residues or wick back etc etc.

I would think that half arsed advice is worse than nothing and had expected more of Which.  Perhaps there is more detail in the actual article than shown.

Let's hope one of the carpet cleaning trade organisations picks up on this and sends them a suitable reply.

NCCA/TACCA...

This is old news. The Woolsafe corporation took Which to task on this and they backed down. Woolsafe did their own extensive testing and got totally the opposite results as the clowns at Which did.

Which is a dangerous organisation in my view as they test things they often have no idea about such as in this example.

In short their report is GARBAGE!

Which aren't in dependant they are asked to report on products by manufacturers, used to subscribe years ago but you could see it was 'well' written.

Mind you Woolsafe aren't exactly blameless for some things.
Anyone remember the carry on from a few years back when a rep from Woolsafe came on here to defend their endorsement of 1001
That was a fun couple of weeks  ;D

We need to push what they can never have so they understand why they have to pay proper money for it. I'm not talking about big truckmounts or even special chemicals, it's our SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

The vast majority don't care though Wynne, they just want the cheapest option. And some morons also think they'll do a better job themselves. They'll give it more elbow grease!

They think, ek its only carpet washing! how hard can it be! I can wash my own clothes, so why cant I wash my own carpet!

Sad but true.

and the other half of the UK are dirty numptys.

Which leaves 10% for us to share along with the general cleaning companies that have picked up an aquavac on the cheap and the ever so increasing number of window cleaners that also fancy getting in from the cold.

You are right, I can't believe what dirty fekkers we are in this country, I don't try and convert the price shopper who goes yeah, yeh, yeah but how much? I focus on finding the ones who want it. Maybe I'm an optimist after all  ;D

It just makes it harder to convince potential customers that your time, equipment, training and experience adds up to a service that gives them a top quality finish and provides us with a living wage.

Couple of surveys in the last few weeks have been 4/5 bedroom houses on nice estates, 2 BMWs on the drive and them quibbling over your quote.  Will I do it for 25% less for cash type thing.

Erm, no.  You'll either have to  live with mascara in your carpet or pay a proper rate.

He's pushing his luck there. He would be much better off sticking to the major brands like Daz, Bold and Aerial.
