Police etc magazine advertising scam
« on: October 31, 2013, 12:34:04 pm »
Heads up:
It's that time of year again. Don't get telephone scammed into advertising in fictitious 'Police' or 'Emergency Services' type magazines.

I've had 3 calls this week.

Ask them for a contact number at the police station to verify if they are genuine - that stops them.

they are persistant if nothing else.

needless to say no such magazine exists - theirs or anybody elses.

Apparently there's a language school Nigeria that teaches scouse accent English.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

This is a pet hate of mine and sadly yes a lot of people are sucked in especially new starters but aldo some established people who should know better. Trouble is lots of them never come on pkaces like this so are non the wiser.
As I'm now on the local FSB committee I will be making this my priority to try and get this problem raised nationally and at government level.

I always make a point of saying to anybody that rings trying to sell me something ,that I dont deal with anyone who withholds their number as inevitably the scammers do  .

It is amazing how they get away with this, especially after all this time. It never ceases to amaze me that there are countless genuine businesses struggling to get custom, yet the likes of the builders on Rogue Traders, and people running scam advertising promotions, seem to get plenty of business.
