LPG heater users...can you still...........
« on: October 24, 2013, 06:43:58 pm »
leave it hooked up to the unit with it switched off and use cold water for some jobs or do you have to carry a separate piece of hose to fit the reel when your cleaning a job with cold water?

thanks in advance guys

No problem Daz, welcome to the world of heat. I started using hot last winter,I thought I would only use it in the cold weather but I have found I use it on most jobs. It 'SEEMS' to clean better/quicker/faster. If you dont want heat though just switch it off. REMEMBER to drain it on cold nights! Costs me around 22p per job in gas to use it all the time.
Hope this helps.
When are you going ppb?

Daz you'll need to take a battery out or open the flap when using cold otherwise it will keep sparking.

What hosereel do you use?

dave its the premium metal one from gardiners.ive heard they can warp with hot water so ill be upgrading to a more robust one soon.

what do you use as a connector from the hot hose from the unit on the hose reel as im sure the hoselock one will pop off under pressure and heat.ive cable tied mine on a brass swivel.just about got the gardiner hoselock connector on the washing machine hose but want something better that will fit the red washing machine hose.

also the inside connector of the hose reel(the one at the other end of the hose when you reel it all out)which one do you use? as ive heard these also can pop off under pressure and heat.

many thanks in advance

;D yes, be prepared for trouble. I use radiator hose to the reel and the normal hoselock connectors - the posh ones, yellow with a bit of metal in them and Gardiners elbow.

The biggest problem is trying to get your pressure setting right when the hot water starts pumping - too much and you'll possibly blow the connectors and crush the reel. Too little and the pump stops when using cold. I changed my controller and reel. Had no problems for ages now (touch wood). No trouble with connectors either.

Originally I had so much pressure I had leaks everywhere - even the heater would blow water out of its pressure relief valve underneath. I had the water so hot that it blew the pole hose when I trod on it.  ;D

so dave you can buy radiator hose(half inch)that will fit the normal hoselock connectors?(i have some of the yellow posh ones with the metal in them as well) ;Di also have a heavy duty gardiners QR connector but couldnt get the end of it over the washing machine hose! ::)roll so im using one of the black and orange ones for microbore from gardiners for now.

Yer, I got my hose from the local car spares shop - they cut a metre and a half off their roll. I think it was 13mm. It doesn't fit the brass hoselocks very well but is ok on the newer ones (yellow and grey). I have braided sink hoses to and from the heater. I suck through my heater although most people pressurize theirs by putting pump first.
