My vans written off. Where can I hire one?
« on: October 23, 2013, 11:27:50 pm »
So my t5 transporter was ploughed in the back of and written off tonight. I only owned the van 6 weeks and in the that time had a grippa tank hot water system installed. I'm expecting the insurance to take a while, so can I hire a replacement with at least a cold water system fitted to use till a replacement is found?

What makes it worse is I was going to rescue my wife's merc that was out of diesel. The guy hit my van so hard it sent it into the back of my wife's car doing her bumper too. But F.I.S.H!

get your insurance co to contact alexander swan.

They will hire out their courtesy vehicles (with reach and wash system installed), but they will only deal directly with the insurance company, and only if it is a non-fault claim (which yours is)

Shouldn't cost you a penny.

I often wonder what I would do in this scenario, if your insurance company sorts you out a van. then perhaps pick up a trolley system to get you out the lurch, do you produce water at home..?

Yes I produce water at home. Never used a trolley system. I have two leasure battery's in the transporter so I will whip them and the pumps out if needs be. Cheers

Cheers for the heads up on Alexander Swan. I will mention it to my insurers tomorrow. Do you know what size systems they hire out?

If the worst comes to the worst you will get a van, but with no system.

In that case use a trolley.

If you choose this route I'd happily sell you a brand new pure freedom trolley with 8 barrels. It's cleaned no more than 20 houses.

If interested give me a shout on 07944 431670.

That way it'll be one option to help get you out of a sticky patch. I'm just outside Basingstoke. 40 mins from you.

Cheers for the offer Matt. I may have to go down the trolley route. Is it just one trolley you have? Can you run two poles off one trolley? The vans Alexander Swan supply are only 650litres which will be a real ball ache. Me and the lad struggle to get through the day on 850 litres

Just the one trolley. I bought it for someone I was taking on through a rental scheme I was looking at but he didn't cut the mustard. So it's sat doing nought right now.

Not sure abut two poles, I'd imagine you can, so long as you have the correct fittings.

Gosh I hate to be guy claiming from you as you could claim a host of loss in earnings and etc if you got it all correct.

Happened to myself when I first started when I was Cleaning and came back to this Women driver who well in side of my van and her BMW was smashed!

I truely feel your pain which is why all my WFP systems are able to get out the van easily

Hopefully Oliver can recover my system from the van. The smash caused all sorts of lights to come up on the dash board so hate to think what's it's done to the heater system.

Good to hear both of you are OK Richard, that must have been a hell of a scare.

From recent personal experience make sure you deal direct with your insurer not a claims handling company. Had my car written of back on the 5th July. Initially it was a claims handling company dealing with it. There were useless. Last Month I discovered my insurer LV could take over the claim they have sorted the claim quickly and even given me a better pre accident valuation than the Claims handling company were offering.

we had one the same a few years back its a pain in the arse ! ours was only 3 days old at the time we were gutted it was on the way to get the truckmount fitted

heres a tip keep every thing you can in a file every penny it costs you , phone calls , millage , where and to , also any work lost , trust me your they going to try and pay you out as little as possible take pictures of van and the gear , as it is , and has it was ect ect ect  get ones of the dash if its got no holes in , even the drivers seat if not ripped it will help if they start saying its only worth bottom book value

get copys of all paper work that you send them sounds over the top but it will save you loads of time if they miss place it

we have had around 14 written off over the years when we were in at d.h.l. and ive lernt to play them at there own games , its all about paper work if yours is right then you will get more

When one our van were in a bump we had Fleet Hire company out and who then called Police out and  The Asian guy tried to call us directly and say I pay to get it fixed but I don't want go via insurance and I was like NAH!   But Fleet Hire guy came out taking pictures of the van, car, drivers and the area and what was happening and etc.

Lucky our fleet hire firm got one they Dash Cam which shows speed of our driver at time and etc which was lucky as the Asian guy was trying to say our guy Braked Super hard and for no reason.    AGAIN Susan you are correct to show every peice of paperwork and how much fuel was in the van and all your kit and value.

Asian guy had to pay about 8K in kit alone plus Van had to be repaired which was Whole Back Door, Bumper and that was done at a VW dealership so I hate to image the cost.
