It sounds like you need to tighten the clamp bolts up slightly so that the lever arms remain in position when open. If you try and tighten the bolt adjuster by perhaps 1 or 2 turns it should make everything work better.

Any other questions please feel free to email me.

we have some problems with new poles, they always need tightening, when the old ones didnt used to...

however after giving our new clamps a battering for the last 6 months, they are working a treat.  still need tightening sometimes, but you dont get the old probelms of worn down poles that have sections you cant clamp at.

in balance i think these clamps are far far better.  other wise you're always fixing your pole or having to readjust if you clamp in the wrong place

Yeah, I like the new clamps. They do spin around sometimes and they do sometimes need adjusting, but I like them anyway. And I have a new SLX made by Alex himself so I don't expect any clamps to come unglued. If they do, you guys will be the first to know. ;D

Yes they take some getting used to but I now think they're very good clamps, had my clx a couple of months now and it's just a case of getting the adjustment right so they are tight enough to stop the clamp spinning but not too tight that they won't close.

Amazing . I'm keeping relatively quiet . Nothing to gain by slagging them off .
They have cured the spinning section problem of a old pole .
But the actual operation of the clamps I have found to be very poor .
Can't beat a vertical clamp like I have on my new pole .
Vertical clamps are just the best .
These are just too awkward , but perservere .

Nice to see I'm not the only one .
Terrible clamp , and I'm sure there be another upgrade , as they do need improvement .

not sure about the extreme poles myself as you can only clamp in one small area can't you, so this will always wear down faster than anything

yeah you can only clamp a small section but I thought these clamps were suppose to reduce pole wear?

The section on my pole has worn down as quick as the old style clamps.

You have about summed it up  :) The clamp bolts can be adjusted up a little bit tighter than most users are used to, but because of the adjusting mechanism they still work smoothly. Keeping them correctly adjusted will allow the levers to stay in the correct position for easy use.

Hi SB

From your previous communication I thought that your pole was an older Xtreme pole that you had fitted the upgrade smart clamps to?

These clamps will reduce pole wear as the clamps only ever grip as tight as is needed and no tighter - obviously the best effect will be felt on those who have bought new poles with the clamps fitted from Day 1. However the main benefit is the way they handle the pole section when it has started to wear which will still unfortunately happen with any composite material pole. On an Xtreme pole you can build back up the clamping section if needed when they are worn - email me for instructions.

Do you still use an Aquadapter with your Xtreme pole?

Some clients have found that the nylock on the bolt does not hold the bolt quite tight enough to keep the bolt in position. It sounds like you are one of these people - most of them perform exactly as they should and hold firmly in position.

We do have a solution available in about 2 weeks time for the relatively few clients who have this issue. It is a slightly re-designed bolt/nut which has an improved nylock facility so that the bolts will not need any adjusting once set - apart from when the pole starts to wear. This will be available for free to clients like yourself - just ring the office in 2 weeks time and explain your issue and the office team will be able to send them out to you. Do not ring before this time as they will not know what you are on about!

Hi Alex

Yes the clamps were fitted to an old extreme pole but I'm fairly sure I bought a new section 2 a few months back...I've built up.sections before with epoxy resin works a treat..

Still got the aquadapter on the xtreme and wouldn't be without it :)

thanks alex,

as i said, i think the clamps are a huge improvement once the poles start to wear.  i'm definitely a fan of them now.

our pole would usually need replacing by now, with the old clamps that is

I appreciate your feedback on this  :)

Make sure you give us a call for the bolt upgrade as it does sound as if you are one of those that would benefit from it.

We are finding as time goes by and from increasing customer feedback that adding extra weight/leverage in the form of the Aquadapter is increasing the wear and friction on particularly the top sections of telescopic poles. For some the benefits of the AD outweigh any reduction in longevity of these pole sections. This is one of the reasons that we now recommend that clients do not use them on Xtreme poles. Of course clients can still fit and use them on these poles, but they do need to be aware of the issues that can arise.
