waterproofing VW transporter
« on: October 22, 2013, 08:45:16 pm »
Hi. has any one waterproofed there vw transporter. Any ideas on how to seal up the small gap under the bulkhead. I really dont want water leaking into the van cab. Also ive never painted the floor of my vans because rust has never been an issue. Has anyone out there ever really seen bad rust from window cleaning?????????

Any advice or pics would be very helpful also to do with pole racking, internal ladder racking and just general van set up for the VW Transporter. thanks Matt.

I protectakoted the floor in my van but tbh I wouldn't bother again, if the floor is in a good condition its not needed and is a waste of time and money.
You will do better to invest in leak free fittings and buy something to use as a drip tray for brush heads.
If you want to waterproof the bulk head then self adhesive lead flashing tape is good for this, if its a large gap fill with self expanding foam first.

I am still trying to find time to fiberglass my van!
they sell the full kits with colour pigment aswell for £56.00 on ebay and this will cover 4m2
I will just fiberglass straight onto of the wood flooring to ensure I have a flat surface.
im not looking for something that is 100% water tight because I need flood the van, just a surface the is easy to clean and wont smell of wet wood.

thanks for the response and photos. i think ill use silicon/mastic to block the holes and just leave the van floor as is. if it was ply id consider protector paint as ive had the wood rot before. now just to pay £400 to have the tank fitted and all. thanks

Never had to bother as it never leaks into cab from bulkhead no matter how steep the hill I'm parked on
