I had a site made earlier this year and there are problems with it. The guy that made it isn't answering emails or telephone calls   

It's a wordpress site too.

Can anyone recommend someone reliable to make these fixes?

To the Wordress yes. Think its hosted with the guy who made it.

Nice looking site, but I get problems with it too.

I can see the home page and some others but a lot of the pages are blank with ( 500 - Internal server error ) on them.

Their maybe a genuine reason ... he could be ill.

Try ringing from a different number and see if it's just you he's avoiding

Well he sent an email to someone else I know so he responded with a message off me. No response.

Dave to solve this you would ideally, be able to access the server (it sounds like a "back end" problem).

What you can try right now is to disable all of the plug ins and then reinstate them one by one (in case one is causing a conflict).

Update your Wordpress version to the latest one as this can cause a problem as well.

Dave, is this site very recent?

I can access the "About us page" and the "contact us" page. I am now wondering if there is something wrong with the navigation (the URLs look a bit strange). I would have expected 404s rather than 500 errors though.

Try this (it's Ok it's reversible).

Go into the dashboard.

Go to "settings" > "permalinks" and check / click the radio button labelled Post name. Save the settings at the bottom of the page and refresh your browser.

Sometimes if a Wordpress site is built on a virtual server (like a normal html site) rather than directly online it can play up if you don't reset the permalinks.

I've just got a 404 for http://www.carpetsofacleaners.co.uk/wp-login.php

Normally, I would go into the server at this point (but obviously, we have a big problem there).

Maybe your web guy has a temporary server problem?

I see Google only has the home, contact and about us pages indexed as well.

Sorry. Without getting inside, I'm a bit stuck.
