« on: October 10, 2013, 08:26:23 pm »
a lot of my custies seem to like sharing their medical problems with me, it does my head in. sometimes it takes ages to listen to . its when they start telling me about their dysfunctional bowels .urghhh... too much info....have people no dignity . i know its part and parcel of what we do . but i have a very vivid imagination ... could do without it tbh ........sorry rant over

You're too nice Andy.
After about 30 seconds I'd say 'well, time is money, gotta go' no matter what they were blabbing on about.
Or, pretty much only to the old dears 'I'd love to stop & chat but you're boring me now' with a wink and the gun. They love a bit of cheeky banter.

I hate it when you're in a hurry to get through the days work and get held up listening to intensely boring stories about in-laws, next door neighbours, problems with this, that and the other and yup, the worst of the lot, medical problems.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

If you said that to me you would be looking for another customer right quick!!!
Sounds like we've got some right ignorant window cleaners here.
If you can't end an interlude of social interaction when you want to, and need to without resorting to some of the attitudes I've just read here and without putting the other person down then it's an indication of a severe lack of social skills on your part.
No time to pass the time of day with the ones who put bread on your table. Shameful.

I increased the price on a custy that could talk for britian and it got so bad that I had to leave her til the end of the day. I mentioned that I am here for a long time and she said that I did chat a lot ??? ??? ???

I had one this morning who told me about his recent op for bowel cancer.

Then he started dribbling blood down his bottom lip.

Not nice, poor old git.

It must be an age thing with me, I am 50 now. I really enjoy talking with most customer's, it brighten's what would otherwise be a dreadfully boring job. If you are not too fixated on making a fast buck, it can be a very rewarding experience. Most custies have a life to tell about, good stories and juicy gossip about someone, if they go down the boring route, nudge them along to something else, they get interesting the more you prod.

I feel kind of sorry for all you guy's who don't have time to smell the coffee, glad I am not like any of you who are.

Have a nice day now y'all.

I always have little chat with my customers.   I build some decent rapport with them and then when somebody comes along and tried to pinch them they simply remember how nice I am and they say 'No Thanks I am happy with my Window Cleaner'    and saves me a fortune on coffee & tea during day and plus one always makes me a wee bacon or sausage roll in the morning.

I agree we haven't all got all day to chat, however, a quick chat with my customers tends to keep me in their good books. As one other guy said on here, if they get to know you a bit, its less likely that they will change to another window cleaner.
I also get other work form it, so I don't mind having a quick chat, they are your customers so look after them or someone else will for sure.  :)
