outside port panel
« on: October 09, 2013, 06:30:48 pm »
Hi guys,
Just wanted to ask who uses an outside port panel or similar, so you can clean with the back of the van closed ?

My only problem with this is that unless you can run the hose out from inside still, you would have to attach it from the outside of the van and walk with it, if that makes sense.

Anyway, any views on this or would I be wasting my money. I don't live in a dodgy area and so not a major issue just a thought that it might be useful at times.

Thanks in advance guys.

Regards

Steve

We keep hose reel bolted on the floor just inside  the back doors  and had a hole cut  in side panel and fitted a set of the hose guide rollers . its easy to open the doors and wind the hose in

Steve,

You are making mental excuses by turning the cost of every screw over and over in your head. You have been scrutinizing wfp for over a year and still not done anything.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Port-Bumper-Underport-Plate-WFP-Van-Mount-Cleaning-System-/121186110671?pt=UK_HomeGarden_CLV_Cleaning_CA&var=420177148749&hash=item1c37414ccf#ht_936wt_1399

If you bought one of these for £15.00 and then felt it wasn't necessary, then it isn't a train smash. You won't be starting WW3. You are over analysing things and in the end you will never do anything because you won't take the risk. With your financial background you have to agree that £15 is nothing when compared to the costs of the whole system, of which I include the van as well.

Even if you live in a secure area, you can't work with the van doors open. A gust of wind can blow the doors shut on your hose. It can be damaged in the door locks and it can restrict the water being pumped through the hose. In the commercial world, I saw rear van doors ripped off their hinges when they were whipped back by a gust of wind.

We always work with the rear doors closed although mostly not locked - we always lock the front up though. The hose reels are always outside.

I don't understand what you mean by walking with the hose. All of our hose reels are on wheels. There are sometimes when I drag the hose reel around to the first window I will clean, tie it up and wheel the hose reel back to the van, unrolling the hose as I go. This is much quicker than messing around guiding the hose around dozens of obstacles.
Success is 1% inspiration, 98% perspiration and 2% attention to detail!

The older I get, the better I was ;)

just cut two holes in the side of my van , and fitted two plastic filler necks works a treat no need for rollers at all and  when finshed you pop the covers back on to stop the cold getting in

I have 2 ports at the back fitted to the bumper these connect to the system inside the van.
Up through the floor.
I lift the hose reel out and connect it to the port, so it doesn't restrict me opening the doors.
I also have another two fitted at the side for filling the tank one for tap in and one for waste out.
Means I can fill the van with pure and keep it locked.

Lee had a very similar idea to Susan he just fed the hose through the hole then pulled it to the job or fit the roller guides in rear doors or floor and bumper.

We have fixed reels sod all that humping it on and off the van, too heavy and time consuming

I use 50m of pole hose as my main hose. I just lock the back door of my van on it and it's job done.

Thanks guys & Girls for the replies, that's given me the information that I need so job done with regards to that.

Spruce, I appreciate your comments (constructive criticism they call it) and you are right it wont make a big difference for what its worth. However, I asked the question on here as I just wanted to know if the other guys used one and what the benefits were, the cost is no big deal.
Other than that I appreciate your post, as you have given me some good information, I am nearly their with wfp, if had more customers I would have jumped in months back. Its building up now so need to make the move and will do very shortly.

Thanks chaps

I have a length of 6mm hose from my pump to the reel. lift reel out the back and onto floor. position the hose feed in the little gap at the bottom between the two rear doors, lock the van up….

I work with both van doors open full, warning signs out and hose reels out... never in over 2 years has my door blown off or blown shut on my hose causing damage. Its general knowledge if you think your door stands a good chance of blowing shut, then just close it enough so your hose sticks out and rest it and the door wont budge.
