After 10 years of WFPing without one, the water co is now fitting water meters soon.

How much extra does it cost to be on a meter? Is it really that much of an issue?

It will be more than 80p. Where we are in Essex it's roughly £2 an the includes sewerage. So if you use an RO an 70% is waste product you will need over 3000l of water to make 1000l of pure so you will be looking at roughly £6-7 to fill a 1009l tank.

you get them to fit a 'sub-meter'. that way you only pay for the water used and not for the sewerage charges.

I would kick up a fuss and demand they do something with the quality of our water if they put me on a meter it is outrageous 380 reading from the tap from tds meter is disgusting absolutely yet you go 3 miles away and its the cleanest water in warrington reading 49 from the tds meter what the hell!!!!. all you can do is claim it all back on your tax at the end of the year....

TDS has nothing to do with the quality of the water natural spring water can have a TDS of 500 or more.
All depends on what minerals your water has in it.

 charge £1.53 for 1 cubic metre or 1000 litres plus about £1 a week standing charge

they also charge a sewerage rate of 94p per 1000 litres to add to your £1.53
and a surface water charge depending on the size of your house based on rateable value add another 30p
so thats £1.53 + 94p +30p
a nice a clear pricing structure

my water bill works out at about £800 a year.
Don't forget to explain to the water company that it's not all going down your drain, or they'll charge you for drainage too.

We have had them fitted recently in Hampshire. My monthly direct debit has gone up about £20 per month. I work 3 full days per week.
I bought a meter off ebay and have it connected to the outside tap which the ro uses.  I take readings every Monday and at year end will calculate and deduct from tax.
I think contacting the Water board can lead to hassle as they want to put you on commercial rating.

Then you haven't got your set up right? fit a recovery system and apply for a non return to sewer, saves ££££££ Dave.

Steve, I know yours is dirt cheap but honestly I think your water company has cocked up and you will get a massive bill at the end of the year  
The return to sewer allowance is only a percentage - you don't get something for nothing plus there's the household useage to consider.

Even if you put nothing down the drain and didn't use an ro system - you still pay in excess of £2 for every cubic meter of water.

I have to use an ro - even if my rejection rate was 50-50 which it isn't then this puts my water at £4+ per 1000 litres of pure.
Anyone know how much your average osmosis unit rejects?

There fitting meters around our way but you dont have to use it.
Doesnt matter to me now because i have a unit and water and electric is included.
