How Many Customers Per Van?
« on: October 08, 2013, 07:10:53 pm »
Was just thinking of you Gents who run multiple vans with one worker in each van. How many residential customers do you service per van on a six week period?

I reckon I could get about 20 in my van. Average size.

Depends on value of each house. Distance between each house.

Typical WFP one Man one van £200-£300 per day.

one man van over 6 weeks of mixed sized houses should be able to handle a min of 450 and maybe as many as 600 - im planning on the 1 man per van route and will be expecting them to do 100 jobs a week

Thanks for the sensible reply Ian. We are currently on 350 per van, average house price £17.60 I'm trying to push for more per day but struggling to get them motivated.

Do you offer a bonus scheme at all or just pay hourly rate?

neither as not there yet so all theory at the moment however one thing for definate is they wont be on an hourly rate as they wont have "ownership" of the job in hand so will be paid along lines of days takings with an amount taken out to cover van, water, fuel, insurance, maintenance, equipment etc then a share of days takings.

I work on a 4 weekly roll and have 2 vans out and manage 550 jobs each van working. 25-30 jobs a day are achievable as long as compact unless you target big houses in which i wouldnt have a clue how manage..i try and have everything stress free and simple.
Instead of getting them to do more over a day why not say they must do 1 saturday a month?? Depending on how many vans you have out but if 2 then thats an extra £600 a month coming in which is more money for you and more for your employees! Everyones a winner..

Why worry about how many customers? Surely the only important criterion is turnover, whether it's from one customer or 100.

Decide how much you want each van to turnover and tell them they have to hit that target each day - always assuming you have enough work to achieve it.

Our lads are all Franchisees, so we have an agreed target with each one.  We allow 15% for 'not todays' etc so expect them to achieve 85% of the target they asked us for on average over a set period.

Nice and simple, and works for us ;)

He was talking about your average house size im guessing with how many managable in a day, how much that can be earned in a day would be much more spreadable and far from consistant over a full day.
