Get your camera out!!

No seriously - "borrowing" pics off the internet can land you with copyright lawsuits and HUGE fines,.. its not worth the risk!

You mean mega pixel images as well.

Ideally for a website 5 mega pixel as a min.

But then you just simply optimize them for quicker loading.

The law changed on this at the beginning of this year.

You can take any picture from any site and do what you want with it. Obviously within reason.

I spoke to my website people and I asked about copyrighted stuff. They said we can remove a copyright in about two seconds.

No offense, but whoever told you this is talking rubbish.  Use someone else's picture, especially one from the big agencies like Getty etc, and they will be all over you in a moment.  I know several people who have done this, taken legal advice, and then paid getty the £1,500 they asked for.  They have the law on their side, the images are their property.

Copyright cannot be 'removed' from an image.  Copyright refers to who owns the image, and has the right to 'copy' it.  It's not something within the image itself that can be removed.  You might be able to remove a watermark, that's something different entirely.

I know you'll probably say I'm wrong etc etc, so I'd like to see you use one of Getty's images on your website without their permission.  Post a link, and we'll see what happens.

Pete

I can't remember who said this to me but a cursory glance across the web and your point is correct.

I was talking about watermarks, being easily removed.

I think at this level most of the photos that want to be used will not be copyrighted but I will shut up about this as I am definitely not savvy.

Give me a supermarket - well that's a different kettle of fish ;)

Pete is correct.  I have made money out of my own water fed pole pictures being copied.  i have given people notice to remove them, and when they haven't I have charged them £99.00 per month or part thereof.  Of course these invoices are ignored until I issue them with a 7 day notice or I will claim the money via[url]https://www.gov.uk/make-court-claim-for-money/overview/[url]. A quick free of charge 1/2 hour session with a solicitor usually advises them to pay up.
