Oxygen BLeach on Decks??
« on: October 03, 2013, 09:19:50 pm »
Hello All,

A few of our customers have asked me to clean their decks with our pressure washer, I wanted to ask do you guys always use bleach on deck cleans - my research shows that oxygen bleach may be a better choice, can you tell me what you use and why? Also I have brought some  plastic sheeting to cover up any plants etc as to stop any bleach spray landing anywhere it shouldn't, do you guys do the same? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi smudger, I have cleaned many decks , have a look at my facebook page or website. Have you cleaned decks before because you may not need to use any type of bleach, depending on the deck and also your equipment you use

No,  :-X

I have several largest jobs lining up over the next few weeks and I have sought advice from roger who was unbelievably helpful ( not forgotten you roger )

Happy to use bleach but concerned about killing off any flora in adjacent areas
Reading up the oxygen bleach is totally safe but is it effective?

No real advantage Darren with the OB, just use the mix we spoke about and you will be fine.
Remember to pre-wet first.
Re coving plants etc, yes we do this, on hot/warm days water the plants first as they can wilt if cover to long.

Darren before you are let loose on a paying customers deck  if you can do a friends deck first for a small fee or even free , you will gain valuable lessons from mistakes that  we have all made on decks  (including the big boys on this forum) All the best ,  Ed

Speak for yourself mate when I started decks were treated as paving clean and walk away, but there is other ways of doing them, a bit if TLC which I explained to Darren.
But I have looked at your website, so understand why you said this.

Hi Roger, I think you may of  misinterpreted what I was referring too. It was nothing to do with any advice you have given him on OB. If Darren has never cleaned a deck before, regardless if he is using a lance or rotary cleaner. As you well know, you can damage the deck with too much pressure or causing stripes with the lance. When I started, I did several FOC decks for friends to gain hands on experience. Apologies for any misunderstanding and thank you for your constructive criticism for my website

Although I have not done any decking and no immediate family have one I've done a fair bit of practice on wood be it sheds and fencing so got a feel for what's right and wrong, but Roger has given advice for the whole process on cleaning decking and feel confident that armed with this info I'll can manage

I was aware that bleach is a relatively dangerous substance to use and while generally reading and researching oxygen bleach came up as a safe alternative

I wasn't criticising your site or work it looks fine, I was referring to the type of property's you have in your portfolio, upmarket so expect the best.
