Customers that make you nervous
« on: October 03, 2013, 04:21:10 pm »
Had one today, stain removal job, just had a new bed delivered from Harrods, delivery guys had dragged it across the white carpet and left a couple of 6 inch black streaks.
Pulled up in the drive to see a massive house with big pillars outside,4 garages, swimming pool,db7 in the drive.
Gotta be the poshest place I have worked in to date, acres of marble downstairs, which was gleaming, place was done out like a tacky Las vegas casino, they had moved here from Chigwell.
She followed me around as I did the job, putting towels under everything.
Made me nervous as hell, much more likely to muck up when people treat me like that, just puts me on my guard.
Got the desired result and she was happy, but I was glad to be out of there

Its just like doing exams at school. ( I was crap anyway). I even failed my blood test  ;)

Everything is going fine and dandy until the teacher sticks his/her head over your shoulder and it all goes to pot! Same with custys that watch you.

Keep away and all will be fine, keep watching me and im bound to knock over that old Ming Dynasty vase! Nothing but a bit of superglue cant fix.

Exactly that yeah (I was also crap) Still got some of my old school reports and they don't make very good reading,it's why I became a chef, lol.
Wish I could have taken some pics, but she followed my every footstep, think she thought I was going to nick something.
She even told me when I first got there that she was going to follow me around.
Wouldn't have wanted any of that tat in my house in honesty.

Here you go ,this is where I was at

http://www.zoopla.co.uk/property-history/punch-s-grove/the-green/hilton/huntingdon/pe28-9na/15135612

Only 1.3 acres, your not gonna get many cows, sheep and chickens on that plot.
You get a proper mansion up North for that amount

I hate being watched when working and luckily it very rarely happens these days, only when in Asians houses usually.

Does anyone have tactful remark to say in such instances so they go away?

agree with the asian thing, i have a few asian customers, they tend to watch/ask questions/comment   a bit too often for my liking........  then spend a while attempting to beat the price down............

Some people are just born common, they just can't help it, and coming from Chigwell (birds of a feather) need I say more.
Personally if I get that sort of customer I will put them in their place and if they don't like it I will leave, at the end of the day it is only money God how boring  ;D

Must admit I'm not keen on posh houses and the posh people that live in them, their jobs always seem more difficult to do with all the eggshells you have to keep walking on. Footballers are ok tho.

Yeah she was on my case, I always wear overshoes, but before I even got to the door mat she asked me to put them on,then I popped to the van which meant I walked on the gravel about 2 steps, she said oh you will be needing another pair of overshoes on then.
Put my porty in the hall bout 3 feet away from a garish chair, she then scuttled off and got some towels to cover it with, god knows what she thought I was going to do,maybe tip a bucket  in from a distance ?
She was going to lay out towels so I could wheel my machine through the hall, said it has rubber wheels so won't do any damage.
Have visions of her scrubbing the floors after I left, had to wipe the bottom of my bucket, after it had been in the sink,so it didn't drip as I walked through the kitchen !! Bit ott really

I have the same problem when I go dogging.

The trick is to realise they are not judging your performance, their mind is on what they are going to do when you've finished.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Lovely house! I'd have that! Mark, your a hippy!!

But yeah, she sounds like a right pain in the arse! I've told people like that before I cant work under these types of conditions. And walked out on a couple of jobs before because of it.

I can only image its because they don't trust you, in case you nick something or cut corners.

Well yeah too a point suppose I am a bit of a hippy  ;D Maybe she had some bad experiences in the past ?
I have never had that kind of treatment from anyone, happy to leave me in their houses and ,let me do my job and lock up when I am done.
Really wouldn't have wanted anything in there, sure it was all very  expensive, but it reminded me of the stuff you see in the windows of those fruit machine arcade type places, the bed from harrods was brown marble type stuff and had lights around the base.wtf
Mindless consumption in my eyea

In my neck of the woods, we have millionaires street, called Wigton Lane.  I do many properties in the area and I don't bat an eyelid.  Many of them just leave me to it, or go out for a few hours and come back.  Some of these properties have 7-8 bedrooms, all wool carpets.  Most of the carpets are clean, they just want more of a maintenance clean.  They pay big bucks.
