The unit will switch on @ 1.6 bar and off @ 4.8 bar, so it sounds like it has hit the higher limit and switched off. Then it kicks in when the pressure drops below 1.6 bar.

I think one is a continuous use pump and the other is an "on demand" pump, which only kicks in when the pressure drops below a certain level (We made the same mistake !)

I've got the Clarke CBM240E booster pump and it does not suffer from this problem.
I think if I was in your position andyralph I would phone MachineMart's Technical Department and ask them if this is normal?
