help! - which van deadlock is this?
« on: September 19, 2013, 06:25:11 pm »
hi

i've got deadlocks fitted on the rear and side doors of my vivaro (i think there actually called slamlocks as they lock automatically when you shut the door). anyway the lock in the rear doors is starting to wear out and its taking a lot of effort and ket riggling to get the doors open. its the lock and not the key as they key works fine in side door. anyway i'm trying to identify it so that i can hopefuuly hyst get a ciuple of barrels or something. the locks are 50mm diameter on the outside and look like the photo below. anyone got anything similar on there van and know what they're called or where to get them?

with the lock barrel out on the table you should be able to see which tumbler is causing the bother , take it out ,the others left will be more than enough to keep it safe

thats what i would do if was you

car/van locks are always assembled by hand, with a circlip of sorts behind the last tumbler to retain the inner barrel into its housing .    once you have the circlip off and inner  barrel removed put in the key and all tumblers should now be flush with the barrel except the duff one which may be worn or bent .   its also possible one of the tumbler spring is gummed up or broken ,rare but possible

Have you tried wd40 into the lock? stick the key in and wiggle it about. often works with siezed up locks.

I've tried oil, but i'll give some wd a try before I take it all apart.

Although I had previously oiled it the wd40 seems to have helped a bit, so I'm going to spray a bit more in then give it an oil and hopefully that will be sufficient.

Being slamlocks they get a lot of use and I thought it was just worn out but maybe not. They came with the van but if I had a choice I would have preferred deadlocks.

Yes I think slam locks are abit of a nightmare if you leave keys in the
Back and shut the door your knackered as they automatically lock the doors
