WPF in the Rain....Help Advice
« on: September 17, 2013, 06:27:57 pm »
After I cleaned a custy's windows today, she came out and asked me why I had just cleaned her windows in the rain. I just said sorry, there will be no charge for this clean.
As i am totally new to this, please could I have some constructive advice from people out there who clean alot in the rain. IE: everybody from the North West....Ha Ha
So I can explain to my customers why I can use WFP in the rain and it still works

Cheers

The rain will not affect the cleaning of the windows as rain is almost pure itself, when I've tested the rain off my roof it measures 6ppm which is good enough to clean windows without leaving spots.

You should of said that you always work in light to moderate rain as it doesn't affect the cleaning of your windows and that you offer a rain guarantee if your windows don't dry clean after it stops raining you will reclean any affected windows. You shouldn't of given her a free clean.

If the rain is light to moderate it should be ok to clean and not affect the quality of the windows. As the rain gets heavy, it can beat the gutters and facias etc and cause dirt to fall onto the windows (which is no good at all). If you aren't sure then just offer a guarantee that if there is any problem whatsoever the next day, you will clean them again for free.

Sounds like you need your confidence boosting.
Clean your windows in the rain and check the results when they dry. Honestly most of the time they are perfect.
You can the reassure your customers they will dry well. Offer the rain guaranty where you will re-clean free of charge if they are unhappy with the result within 48 hours.
Finally tell them it is your only source of income and over the year they may get 2 or 3 "wet day cleans". Most will support you, they may not like it but generally they will not dump you and if they do, go rep[lace with someone who values a regular service.

I've wondered about the feasibility of explaining in writing to all customers and on my  website something along the lines of;

Dear customer,

The service I provide is to clean off the previous month's accumulation of dirt that has formed on your windows.
I guarantee that immediately after I have cleaned them they will start to get dirty again.

Whether it is raining whilst I am removing the previous month's accumulation of dirt is of no consequence, apart from me getting wet.

My advice is not to.

What you could be doing is putting negative thoughts in customer's minds they may not have thought about.

Not to?

I stopped today when the rain got really heavy, but I had a grotty first clean lined up so I went and did that. Got drenched (didn't have waterproof tousers in van) so wnt home.

A bad, bad idea. Why would you even consider that? ??? :o

It most likely is a very bad idea.

But is it correct?

I've found the best way is when first quoting the job, I explain how wfp and the water works (leave the water on, carries on cleaning and then dries completely clear) and then say this is an ideal system for this country as it won't be affected by the rain. I say that if I was to use the soap and water method then little bits of soap residue that are left behind could run and leave smears. I only state this point as an advantage to wfp if I have already told them that is the method I will use as I use both trad and wfp.

Also when it has been raining when I've been cleaning or has alot in the last few days and a custie says something along the lines of 'have you managed to get much done or bet you've not got much done) I say something along the lines of, ahh I've been okay luckily as all the jobs I've had have been with the wfp so won't be affected. Or say not too bad, had to rearrange a few jobs I do off ladders but the majority are done with the water system now so can't affect the clean. This is just an added reitteration to customers that I still clean in the rain and it wont affect the clean.

I've only been going a year but this explaination has worked for me even when it has bucketed down. Although I do try to avoid if it is very heavy, but if I start in light rain and it gets worse I just keep going and get it done.

if a customer insists they don't want cleaning in reasonable
rain conditions,be prepared to dump but only at your own
convenience.

I had one yesterday who didn't want them cleaned because it
as her husband put it...it might rain! ::)roll

wont be hearing from me again :)

When we quote we always say we clean in the rain no matter how heavy! most customers accept this the ones who don't don't have us as their window cleaner!

+1 this is what I do with all customers. Some just accept it without question, others are surprised and so requires further explanation. Once they know, it's easier to go on the rainy days because that's what they know you are going to do. They've accepted that fact and become your customers.
