So no-one says, "I'm John Smith Window Cleaning co."?

John Smith might do.
I know of a window cleaner called John Smith, too.

I asked him, once, what name he used to book hotel rooms for dirty weekends. But I was wasting my time  ::)roll.

I just tell the truth and say 'window cleaner (muffled, obviously) and I do very well out of it'. Why lie? I only lie about how much I earn.

I say I'm a striker for West Ham, only slightly less embarrassing than saying I'm a window cleaner

I used to think windowcleaning was beneath me and was embarrassed to say I was a windowcleaner. My dad was a windowcleaner when I was at school and I used to get stick about it so perhaps that partly explains it. I am fairly comfortable with it now though.

Bet you do if you describe yourself as "violet". I always imagined you to be pale orange with hints of taupe. The rest of it may be true... especially the growling  :o  ;D
The good thing about science is that it's true whether you believe it or not.

dress it up however you want, but people are quick to see through any bull around what you call yourself.

If you try to make it sound better than it is, people will conclude you are slightly ashamed of what you do, which is worse than just saying "window cleaner" from the start.

If people turn their nose up, do a little dance.

It's only because most people think window cleaning is a lowly thing that they don't do it themselves...which means more money for us!

Yes I always rejoice when someone looks down their nose, it tells me my jobs safe.  The day people start viewing window cleaning as some highly-paid, professional business, will be the day that it gets harder to find work.
