How do you describe yourself to others?
« on: September 17, 2013, 04:55:03 pm »
I suppose most of us here are self employed, so is that how you describe yourself to others who want to know what you do for a living?

Do you say that you own/manage a company maybe?  "Hi, I'm John/Hector and I clean windows"?

Or are you happy to say that you are 'just' a windy'?

Good lookin', funny, handsome, sexy, smart, fit, strong, a bit rough around the edges; like an uncut diamond - wise and possibly the next Amitabha Buddha of compassion and infinite light.

That's about it really.

When asked I always say I am a window cleaner. If someone turns their nose up at that, which they often do, I know that said person is not worth talking to.

I tell them I'm a window cleaner, but not a crappy domestic window cleaner. I'm speshul and only clean huge buildings, and have my own forum for like minded successful window cleaners who hate talking about custies and how to handle Mrs Smiths cat poo in her garden when it gets on my gear  etc.

I started with nothing, not like all the rest of the shower who clean domestic windows. I'm a high flying business man who models himself on Richard Branson. I've got three or four vans on the road, but can't remember exactly how many, because I'm far too busy giving advice to other stupid window cleaners who have only got one van etc.

Because I started with nothing, I'm a complete success story. I've got five vans on the road, and a HUGE load of poles with hundreds of different brushes to choose from.

I started with nothing and now I'm a success.

That's what I tell people when they ask what I do for a living. I also tell them I've got three or four vans on the road, and that I'm very successful.

As per a few postings above - I say I'm a window cleaner.

I couldn't careless what anyone I meet and who asks that question thinks about me in terms of job status.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

John Smith might do.
I know of a window cleaner called John Smith, too.
I just tell the truth and say 'window cleaner (muffled, obviously) and I do very well out of it'. Why lie? I only lie about how much I earn.
