heated system Idea
« on: September 12, 2013, 11:04:37 pm »
Hi, I wondered if anyone has tried this idea for a heated system.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BaseCamp-Aquacube-Instant-Hot-Water-Portable-Shower-F235896-w-ACCESSORIES-BAG-/271203340838?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f24fa9226

Do you think there could be any hang ups with a system like this?

I really like the idea of the propane gas shower but didn't really think it man enough for a hot clean, maybe someone could correct me.

Many thanks

The L5 makes water hot enough, literally, to make a cup of tea. Absolutely red hot!

Why spend all that money on that when an L5 cost less than half of that ?

Does it?
Got mine from Corwoods. Just shy of £200 all in.
I was happy at that.

So could of saved myself £50 if I shopped around?
Never mind-Corwoods seem to have a good reputation, perhaps if it goes wrong they'll be better to deal with.
I don't mind either way.
It's a good buy.

Can't believe someone said it doesn't get hot enough. I started yesterday, one of the first jobs was a full 100m reel out. After a few minutes working there was steam coming off the brush. Went back to turn it down, it was only on just over a quarter!

I've had hot for about 3 years now bud.
Just changed the boiler is all.
But yes-there is a world of difference between hot & cold.
No-one with any sense whatsoever would say otherwise.

On a side note, I'm 3 days into this bottle but I have a hunch that this boiler is using less gas than the old one.
I'm gonna measure how many litres 1 13kg propane will heat to a good working temperature.

Hi Darren,
it was me that said it wasn't man enough ??? but I am uninformed and do not use a hot system, I was just guessing that a camping shower would not get the water over 30 degrees. How hot does the L5 get? can anyone tell me?

Thank you for correcting me it has helped to change my mind on the way to go forward for hot water. I was also considering an immersion heater but was worried about the risk of legionella, but it seems unlikely according to another thread.

I hope Im not asking to many questions but would I need to change my hose and brush also? would it be to hot for my rubbish Brodex ally pole?

No problem.
I don't know actually. I'll take a thermometer to work on Monday and let you know.
Pole hose-not sure, I've never had any issue with any of the hose I've used though.
Pole-no problem at all. It actually warms the pole up a tiny but.
I had Brodex poles for years. Nothing wrong with them bud.

Darren my L5 uses 1 6kg bottle every 2 weeks.

the temp range of the L5 can get up to 70 deg C. maybe a little hotter.

not had any problems with the pole hose or poles,

just got to make sure all connectors are secure as the hose can get nice and soft and just pop off.

Lee, no problem. Happy to help.

Rich, thanks for that. Is 70 degrees at L5 point or after 100m laid out?
I'll try tomorrow too.

6kg every 2weeks-how many litres would that be. If you've got a 1000l tank working 5 day weeks its obviously gonna use more than a 350 3 days a week...

At heater point, but wouldn't use it that high as it can damage hose as the core temp of the wound up hose would get higher than than.

The 6kg lasts me 2 weeks using about 375lt daily

It depends what heat setting you have it on too, I use a low heat setting.

Cheers, so 1kg heats approx 625kg water.

Yeah, I wasn't going to use it properly hot, just wondered on the theoretical maximum.
Don't see why it couldn't hit 100.
I'm well pleased with the heater though. Wish I'd bought one years ago.

Guess so, depends on heat setting and flow.

I don't have the heat setting pasted quarter way.

Yer they are a good heater, glad I got one too.

Does anyone know if the L5 works off of Butane? A heating technician told me butane was much safer to carry in a vehicle as it is under less pressure and would be less of an issue with insurers. Besides its what I use for my Barbque ;D  ;D
