That was quick!
« on: September 12, 2013, 08:59:59 pm »
Recently taken on a staff member and canvassed quite a bit for the extra work, basic principle is now: i do the back of house and he does the front.

But today, two or three custy's were expressing surprise at how quick we're doing it.

One even said today: "That was quick! £10 for 10 minutes work seems a bit rich."

Took our time too i thought, made sure everything was perfect.

What should i do? Hang around for ten extra minutes?

Customers seem to forget they are paying a result, not time or method. This small fact proves they still see us as been employed by them to do a job, and not as a business offering a service for a fee. Before we tackle then we need to sort our own view of ourselves out.  ??? ??? ???

No-one has said that for a while but most of my customers are out when I clean.
The last time someone said "That was quick", I replied "Yes.  I'm getting pretty good at this."

Don't clean the same house together, split up and do separate houses or divide round up and invest in another vehicle. Two men one house is too much fluffing around to make it really worthwhile and customers feel robbed for time taken.

The following is absolutely true:  I once knewsomeone who went about two minutes over the hour in a car park and the guy at the exit was charging him for the full extra hour.  So he reversed back into the car park and stayed there for another 50+ minutes to get his time.  I kid you not.

I had a woman say that to me the other day, I just said very seriously,
"would you like me to take longer next time then?" when she said yes I just told her ok but as my charges are based on how many jobs I do in an hour I will have to charge more as I will be using more water even though it wont make her windows any cleaner as the dirt is already gone. I then said I will add £5 on next month and take an extra 15 minutes.

After a pause of about 2 seconds she said. "well as long as you think they are clean lets leave it as it is"

Of cause madame, whatever you want. Your paying after all.   ;)

You should never be penalised for being efficient. Doing a great job in a short time causing them less inconvenience is a skill, of she would like to pay you more for it tell her she's welcome :-)

I think some people out there just like to complain about everything because they don't
have the intelligence to do anything else.
If a sensible person thought you where spending too little time cleaning the windows they
would check them and complain if they where not cleaned properly.

I've not had that comment often from custies. When I was new to the game, I used to say nothing, and got on with the job. I don't really rush when I'm working on domestics. That's half the battle won. The other half, I think, is pricing so you don't have to rush to make a profit and hit your daily targets, if you have them.

I get the odd clever custy asking how many houses we work in a day etc, and you can hear the cogs wirring in their heads etc. If they aren't happy or begrudge someone earning what they think is too much for such a low skill job, then let them cancel.

Millions of customers, only about 50,000 to 70,000 window cleaners. It's always easier to find custies than it is to find a windy.

No still don't understand, I must be thick

I once had a customer who genuinely thought the price would be half because there was 2 of us cleaning the windows and we did it in half the time... Some people!  ::)roll
