cleaning and oiling anti-slip decking boards
« on: September 12, 2013, 06:18:08 pm »
hi

i've got to price a job cleaning and oiling some decking at a local nursery. the only trouble is that its the anti slip decking with the gritty strips running through it a bit like the photo below. i've only come across this on steps before and then i masked it up before oiling and was careful when cleaning it. however this is a large area, and i don't want to price too low if its going to be a lot of messing around.

has anyone done a deck made out of this stuff? it's not too dirty so a FSC at lowish pressure will clean it ok but is that likely to damage the antoslip strips? and when it comes to oiling how would/did you tackle it?

If you want to give me a call tomorrow say after mid-day, mobile number is best I'll have a chat with you, these are easy to do with-out damaging, we have these anti-slip strips on the decking we do for Wimbledon & Harrods Estates and never had a problem.

Roland,
re our telephone conversation today, if you are going to use the oil you spoke of, just make sure it is their water-based product as we now start to go into the wetter season for decking.
Just don't apply when the boards are wet, slightly damp should be ok, but not wet.

Hi Roger

Thanks for the tip, yeah things take a while to dry out from now onwards even with a few days dry weather. I've not tried the water based one but will give it a try.

Thanks for all the info earlier, really helpful and really appreciated.
