Websites are a fantastic way to get new business - not the quickest way, but definitely the biggest return on investment. ALL of my work the past 3 years has come from my websites.
There are loads of ppl doing websites (Myself included) but you should look at what you need & decide what solution suits you best.
You can DIY a site easy enough - Wixx, Weebly, Vistaprint etc etc are all inexpensive & easy to use. Getting a professional looking result from these can be a challenge, but its far from impossible.
If your budget is really tight, Studio Arts give unbeatable value for money. You mightn't get the most amazing website the world has ever seen, but it'll be a huge step up from a DIY job, and for what they cost you get a great deal.
If you've a little more to spend (£400ish) give me a call - I reckon I give great value for money too,.. I charge more, but you get more!
If you've real cash to splash, look around for a company that use their own graphic designers to produce really bespoke solutions - This usually costs around £1200, but you get a top quality result.
Whatever you do - make sure the domain is registered to YOU, and you have full ownership/access/control. If you ever have a falling out with your designer you need to be sure that your investment stays with you and you can still update it & make changes regardless of his cooperation.
