One thing to check with all the 1.9 diesels is that the diesel pump is fully opening when the accelerator is fully depressed.

Years back the 1.9 normally aspirated PSA engines were rockets when compared to the 1.8 Ford Escort vans. How standard have changed over the years.

I got my expert 2.0 atv swb 2012 van 5 wks ago and I love it but I do think its abit too fast for a van at times. Fuel is better than my old 1.9 partner.

I've had the 1.6 never had trouble pulling 500litrez
My one plagued with electrical faults..... Got fed up with taking
It back to dealer cor them to sort !Would I buy another?
I swore I'd never buy another at time but thinking back
It never actually let me down it wasn't as well put together
As the transit but its prob as good as anything else out there if
Relatively new and low miles.
Great on fuel
Big probs are the turbos and the biggest prob of all
Was that the peddles were too close together!
If you got size 10 or above forget it.

I have a Expert 2.0 Hdi 2009 model with a 650 grippa tank fitted and can't fault it.
The van pulls really well up hills when fully loaded and returns reasonable MPG.
I don't really drive round like a boy racer when the tank is full
But before the tank was fitted I gave a friend a lift and he thought the van was really nippy.

When looking there were plenty of 1.6 used ones around but I
Wanted the 2.0 as it has I think around 30bhp more than the 1.6 and also
has a 6 speed gearbox.

Try and get the professional range as these come with Bluetooth, A/C
And electric heated mirrors etc.
