New Gardiner pole is driving me nuts
« on: September 05, 2013, 07:36:49 pm »
Got one of the new poles with a carbon gooseneck and today I nearly chucked it in the river.

I lost count how many times the John Guest fitting inside the pole came apart and the hose fell out the bottom of the pole.

I assume they don't put a cir-clip on as there is not enough room to fit it in the top of the pole. that means every time I snag or slightly pull the pipe its pops out.

I can feel a modification coming on this weekend.

Sounds like an issue with the quick release fitting. I've got a similar setup and haven't had any issues even with I've snagged the hose a few times.

You have to make sure the pole house is firmly pushed in to the fitting. It should click. Then you should be ok. I have these on all my poles and only rarely have a problem. Then I just cut a cm off the hose and push in again.

I have cut a 1mm piece of the ro pipe with a slit in one side and used it as a circlip

And use the black fitting which help for pulling a hose.

make sure it is pushed in correctly. Also if your pulling your hose that much, its bond to come out

Just disconnect it and hose straight to the t piece that connects the jets, it's not like we really change brushes and goose necks so often!

got to agree with this, we use hot water which seemed to make the problem worse
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

Also, if mine does it I normally snip a few mm off the end with the special Gardiners hose cutter (that came free). Because the hose gets a bit distorted where it pushes into or over the connection.

I get this nearly every time I use my 47ft extreme, also the slightest snag pulls it apart. Always a joy collapsing the pole and carrying out unnecessary repairs

Aquadapter do hose inserts for this exact reason - hot water makes the pole hose too soft for the John Guest fittings to keep a grip on! 1 tiny insert will fix the problem straight away.  ;)

That may be so dazmond, but should I have to be buying something to make a piece of equipment do what it was purchased for?
I hope Gardiners have taken note of this and improve for the future.

I have 5 of these poles in constant daily use and am getting fed up having to keep putting them back together.
Its not so much a problem, just annoying.

Just contact Alex directly and I'm sure he'll sort.

I had the same problem a while back with the newer QR's and he sorted straight away.

It is annoying, happens regulary to me and i have the old style clamps on my clx  as well and have had to re glue 3 clamps now since march which is also annoying especially when I then have to pay for the glue from Gardiners to fix it  >:( . You shouldnt really expect to be having niggling problems on a new pole. Not the end of the world, and its still a great pole but very annoying.
