DI Vessel not filling totally
« on: September 04, 2013, 05:08:55 pm »
Running static last night and could hear water tricking into di vessel but even after a few hours it didnt feel full when I picked it up ??

Still making 000 water so no problem there but thought it should fill to top so uses all of resin ?

You should always fill the DI full with water after a resin change before you put the head back on.

If the vessel has just run dry or low for some reason then remove head & fill with water to top. Sometimes air can creep in & start making a water void.

Apart from it eliminating air pockets, it also makes it MUCH easier to get the riser tube back in & aligned with the head threads- with the resin now being suspended in water. ;)

Ian- the trickle you here indicates air in the top vessel, this is the giveaway if it ever happens again. There should be no trickle noise as there should be no void for water to fall through.

Can I hijack the thread and ask if you're sposed to FILL the di vessel with resin, or does iit not matter if it's only half full?

I've got twin 25ltr vessels, but I only ever half fill 'em...

I fill it just to where the vessel starts to narrow.

Does it still come out at 000?

Yep, the first one's got old resin in it, brings it down a bit, the second brings it down to 000..
I just wondered if there was some other physical advantage to filling it up or not..

FCS no disrespect but what's the point in having X2 Vessels half full ? You may as well just have the X1 full which should be about 3 to 4 inches below the top !!!

Filling with water also gives you the opportunity to wash the threads clear of resin beads too.

The point is that when I was using one vessel and the TDS crept up to 10+ it was STILL bringing it down from 20+ to 10. So it still had some life left in it.
As I had a spare vessel I thought I'd just add another vessel in line after the first one to polish off the final 10 TDS.
When the first vessel fails to bring any TDS off the RO output, I throw the resin away, wait for the remaining resin to start building up and repeat the process.

(just seemed a bit of a waste throwing away resin that was still working but not quite good enough, it elongates the life of the new resin)

Does that make sense?
