I need a beast
« on: March 05, 2006, 10:35:18 am »
My main RO is broken & my back up one is feeble. I need to buy another asap or else I will not have enough water to get through the week, but what to buy & from whom?.
DO I need one of these Merlins?. I'm talking a static 1000 litre tank that needs to fill at least once, ideally twice every 24 hours.
I need quick deliver at a reasonable price. I'm ok to spend about £600. Will that be enough?
Onwards and Upwards...

Hi Simon,

In my experience, the Merlin is the only  RO that completely meets your specification within your budget.  The makers only claim 93% rejection of TDS, compared with the more usual 95 to 98%, at a mains pressure greater than 40psi.  It's in stock and on offer at the moment, click on    http://www.andwat.co.uk/acatalog/REVERSE_OSMOSIS_UNITS_.html
It's a superb machine, in the right set of circumstances, which we have specially tweaked to greatly reduce the amount of water which it normally sends to waste.  You'll have to be prepared though to spend more on resin for your final demin treatment, and to add an extra carbon prefilter (one off your old RO will probably do).  If your mains pressure is below 40, you'll also need a booster pump.

Our RHOMBUS 3, or RHOMBUS 5 , both of which include pumps and in-line TDS meters, may also be of interest.

If you want to take matters further, PM us or ring on the no on the website, and we'll get one off to you tomorrow by courier, for delivery Tuesday.

Hope this helps,

Yours, Andrew

Hi there,

Here is a different thought, if you want easy to maintain and very low running costs, you could try 2x RO-Man 300gpd units running in tandem. On good water pressure we have these running at 950+litres a day each, so 2 would produce about 1900-2000 litres a day, these cost £215 each plus vat and cost peanuts to run. They have to be some of the simplest and most reliable units on the market. On our water supply they chuck the water out at 000-001ppm TDS so the final stage resin canister lasts a long time.

Have fun choosing
