Im curious Simon, if your TM was in for a repair or a service and you had to choose a temporary backup... what would you choose? bearing in mind you would be without a van.

Russ,
I'd had have some time off. We have two twin vac portables which we use on specific jobs but would not even attempt to use them to clean carpet, purely because our customers would not accept it.

I'm not being funny here but in the last 12 months I have bought two new portables, 1) an Airflex Storm & 2) an Ashbys Enforcer.
These were to clean the odd rooms we need to do when both our truckmounts are either busy on other jobs or where it's literally just a couple of rooms on the sixth floor etc.

Both these portables are only ever used with a maximum of 25ft of hose and believe me when I say, the power output of them doesn't equal anywhere near the power of the truckmout even if the truckmount was running at 1000 feet of hoses and with a vac plug out !.
There is absolutely no comparison at all between the two, no matter what portable it may be,as anyone who has used a proper large truckmount will agree.

The sheer vacuum roar at the wand you get from a large truckmount even at ridiculous hose lengths make a porty seem very vague even at 10 or 25 ft in comparison and the incredible heat which is upwards of 250f continuously makes them even more appealing.

I have been in this business some 35 years and know of all the latest and greatest machines but none have appealed to me yet apart from truckmounts.

Glynn

There's no such thing.

You can get the the Mytee Escape with wheels      :D

Stephen  ,  I think only the triple vac version of the Advance 1200 could be considered suitable for occasional van mounting .
But the triple Vac Advance 1200 is probably the most powerfull portable / high power pump combination available ....  in that no one else has a triple vac with above 800psi.

A triple Advance 1200 with a 3kw inline heater could be a very nice setup  , if u need the high pressure ... if not most are probably as well off with  Evolution version with onboard heat .

No twin vac Storm , Enforcer or whatever should be compared to a truckmount ... they are portables and can be used effectively at close range .
To get close to TM power you need at least four vacs .

In the right hands a porty can make you a fair amount of money, its true a TM will allow you to work quicker which then allows you to increase your work load.
For the type or work i carry out, a porty is just right... the Altec Express for example is small and quick to set up and is perfect for cleaning vehicle interiors, there are times though i wish i had a TM for the larger jobs.
I agree with JM... use a porty at close range to get the best performance but don't expect TM like performance just because its operating from your van.

Four vacs as a basic entry level for van mounting .
Comparable to say a prowler .

Go out with an experienced porty user and get trained on how to use them properly, then your customers would be happy.... ;D
