Sofa service?
« on: August 26, 2013, 08:18:28 am »
Hi, I posted in 'general' but someone said 'carpets & upholstery' would be better...
I've got a brown leather sofa from Laura Ashley.
My boy has got some sweets or something stuck to it and we wiped it off with a baby wipe.
Rubbed a bit hard and rubbed a patch out of the dye.
Anyone know if I can get it fixed please? A re spray perhaps?!
Also could do with the fibres in the seats and back being agitated, I plump them up but it's 3 years old now and just not cutting the mustard...
Got a single seater fabric and a footstool that could do with a clean too if anyone can help please? Or know of someone that can?
Thanks in advance

Patches on a dyed leather are sometimes quite tricky to fix.  Can you post a photo so that we can help a bigmore

I would be really careful using balms on this (despite what the description says). These are pigments and should not be used on Aniline style leathers as they will sit on the surface rather than sink in.
Have sent email Darren

Not really Paul.  It could be a finished Aniline ( most if Laura Ashkey suites are)

Judy, aniline does not have a mustard base coat with a mottled (sprayed) brown top coat, then finished with a gloss top coat  ;D

110% pigmented guys, just send a swatch off to furniture clinic and they will send you the correct colour match pigments and top coats for it.
To make it a perfect repair you will need to spray finish it.

Seems you don't know all about the different finishes then.

I am not getting once again embroiled in a slanging match Paul - seems you take great delight in this - all I ever try to do is help.

:( that all these posts end up the same way

Paul you'd be better off sending it to Jackie at Buffalo!! :D  It looks like a two tone to me problem with that is getting the vibrancy of the top coat.

Just had a look on the Laura Ashley website regards the leather sofa section and found this on the website. This may help Darren?

Guide to Leather Upholstery

Investing in a True Original

Genuine leather is natural and warm with truly individual characteristics. Laura Ashley only use high quality full and semi aniline leathers, many tanned using water based dyes or pigments and finished with natural substances such as beeswax. This allows the natural markings, scars, shade variation and beautiful characteristics of authentic leather to be enjoyed. All our leathers are a by-product of the food industry. In fact, all Laura Ashley leather upholstery is made to exacting quality standards and individually inspected before leaving the manufacturer.

Choose the Perfect Leather Option for You

We offer leathers to suit all tastes. Some of our leathers have extra character with distressed and wax finishes. These create more significant variances in texture and colour, with enhanced markings under the wax. Pull up*maybe evident, especially on waxed finishes and the crackle effect will vary for a truly individual look. Some of our leathers have had the surface texture removed and a finish applied, giving a more uniform appearance, although characteristics may still be visible. Several hides are used to cover a sofa so variation in colour and texture may occur between the different parts of a piece which will all create a sophisticated and unique effect.

Swatch Service
•To help you visualise how different leathers will work in your home, you can order up to four leather swatches by calling 0871 230 2301 (Calls may be recorded and/or monitored. Calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras) or order in store quoting the product number and a description
•Swatches represent the leather design and colour. Delivered Product may differ due to normal variations in manufacturing. Swatches are not under tension, so if selected for upholstered products delivered items may adopt a slightly different texture and appearance.

We are more than happy to supply the correct products and have absolutely no problem with the sheen of any top coats if required - I have stated this to Darren in our exchange of emails.
You get what you pay for Graeme
Paul please keep up to date with coatings - this is an aniline dyed leather with a tinted finish - checked it out today

Laura Ashley seem to be using a wider variety of finishes these days so it is important to check that the correct finishes are used.  If you are not sure what you have just send me a sample and I will be able to help you identify what they have used - we also have a large stock of sample leathers from many suppliers so may even have one in stock.
Hope this helps
