Okay, I'm getting rid of my old van (Renault Trafic) and have removed the above mentioned system to store in the garage for now.

I'm thinking of selling it and would like to know what you guys think its worth...

Still have the original invoice of £3,300 for it brand new and fitted and I would say its in reasonable condition so let me know how much you think I should advertise it for.

No poles because they were the streamline fibreglass ones and just got chucked out I think.
4040 RO with 20 inch Pre-filters

Brand new 110 ah leisure battery and split charge relay.

Sorry, but I think £1500 is being rather optimistic IMHO.

You say that you would think it’s in reasonable condition. What do you mean by that?
Appearance is very important.  If the nice blue paint is peeling and there is a bit of rust then you will not get a buyer’s interest, especially as they are advertising a new base unit for £2470.00 fitted.

If I was looking at this, I would discount the hose reels being of any significant value even if they had new hose fitted. I would also consider that I would have to replace the r/o membrane and prefilters including the resin in the di vessel.

The fitted price you paid PF would also include labour to fit the tank to your van and protectra coating the floor (unless you painted the floor yourself to save workshop time.) The labour cost can’t be included in the sale price of the unit secondhand.

So considering this, I doubt you will get any more than £750.00 from a serious buyer. A 650 liter Brodex full house system only fetched a little more than that just recently on Ebay and it was well presented. The mounting frame had been repainted and the red wasn’t faded.

Remove the original labour cost of fitting the unit and by writing down this new initial value of the unit to the Receiver’s formula for Capital equipment, you will also get a similar value if the unit is 5 years old.

yeah if someone offers you 800 - 1000 cash i would take it, the trouble is, regardless of what you paid for it, the convenience was in having it fitted and ready to go, i think delivery systems are more popular now and can be fitted cheaply... a year ago would have been better, for me this past year pure freedom have been diabolical with customer service where as when i started they were very good ( i know off subject but i thought id put the boot in) if i were you i would probably just keep it as spares etc

Yeah I was contemplating using it as a static and selling off the extras (pumps and controllers etc).

However I still think even it was split up it should fetch at least £1000

I.e,

Tank and frame £500

RO and Pre-filters with DI £350 (all working perfectly by the way, tap tads is 125 and I get it down to 3 before DI, also have about ten litres of resin left in the bag)

Pumps £100 (£50 each)

Controllers £100 (£50 each)

Hose reels £100 (£50 each)

Battery and mounting plate with split relay £50

Outside van port £10

Total: £1210.00

I could shot in a couple of poles and get £1250 I reckon?!

Oh and of course an extra fiver for the trusty TDS meter!

i think a lot of risk is in buying second hand,

the pumps - you can get flow jet an vyair new for about £60,

hose reals, gardiners new 35 or slightly better metal ones - pure freedom about 70

controllers , i'm not too sure about because i stopped using them.

second hand tanks are cheap on here and fabricators make the frames for 100

ro an pre filters are too risky to buy second hand as the membranes are so expensive

battery's can be delivered new for 75

however saying that this is on here where everyone knows everything about prices etc, i think maybe ebay or somewhere you may get a grand, i probably would when i first started, because in reality if your starting out this kit will make you a lot of money

I agree. Why would I spend £50 on a second hand pump when  I can by a new Shurflo for £75.00.

I bought a second hand system to start with, and within a year had replaced the membranes in the r/o, the hose, hose reel, battery, pole and brush. I still had the pump but threw off the bypass valve and put in a new analogue Varistream. In the end I bought twice.

I wouldn't do it again.
