Has anyone blocked a toilet with dirty water and carpet fibre? Happened to me on Monday. First time in 10 years. Bit of a yarn but not totally convinced it was clear in the first place so thought Id see if it has happened to any of you guys? Cheers! John

I have done it to a toilet with a sani flow unit fitted. The macerator can't chop the fibre and it blocks the small bore pipe after the unit.

I have to say in 32 years I've never blocked a customers toilet.

Did you pre - vac the carpets before cleaning? If you did, then there would not of been that much carpet fiber in the waste tank to cause a blockage.

There must of been a pre existing problem with the toilet.

Yes pre-vacced with my Kirby as I always do. Just txt the landlord and he said there is no sani flow unit fitted. Never happened to me in 10 years...

I usually fish it out the bucket if it's really bad,it amazes me sometimes just how much lose fibre I get out,do normally use the duo,and what that get's out is amazing..

When I used a portable I would sometimes separate the debris if there was a lot or llift the sewerage drain and tip it down there.

This must be nigh on IMPOSSIBLE to do with an ordinary toilet - cannot believe the cheek of some chancers who blame everyone else for something they probably already knew about - are you serious? - you must have pulled so much fibre out of the carpet it will be bare in places! - more likely he already had partly blocked system with tree roots in his outflow to the road etc

If you used your Kirby to pre vac then there is no way you would of caused the blockage.
You say its a landlord job, then god knows what the tenants have put down there.

Thanks for the input guys. The thing is when I emptied the first bucket in it immediately began to fill up as if there was already a blockage. Admittedly there was a fair amount of carpet fibre in the pan, undoubtedly! But this has never been a problem before so I am trying to figure out why this time so that it NEVER happens again!

The landlord is a distant relation. Not that that makes any difference. I have a feeling he didn't believe me when I told him I thought it was already blocked. Very difficult to prove of course as he was abroad  while all this was going on! He is very well off with properties in Spain, Newcastle and lives in an affluent area of the town where I live.

Anyway ultimately I'm £60 lighter in the pocket as he had to get a drain block company out to unblock the toilet!!

Well you got it sorted, it's a rare event and it cost you sixty quid in the end. It's very unlikely to happen again because you will be mindful of this incident in future.

I presume that this toilet was for decoration only and not to be used for it's normal function?

Was there a sign saying no solids?

I wonder what these people think normally goes down a toilet?

vacuum inline filter will be a good purchase, vary handy, engines will last longer as no fluff going into them

Why didn't you just unblock it with the porty hose or at least empty out what you put down it. Then you could have poured the waste water down a drain and the owner would have discovered his blocked tolet later on.

Problem is John I am too trusting... I just thought that because he is a distant relation (father's cousin) he would have believed me and sorted the problem out himself or at least contacted the previous tenant to see if there had been a problem with the toilet.

Unfortunately I misjudged his character. I hardly know him to be honest but lesson learned...
