Just bought a second hand extracta exel. It was cheap and cosmetically challenged however being my first machine i didnt really know what i was buying but was in full working order. Anyway i think one of the vacs is knackered but not sure. When i turn on first vac it makes noise but barely any suction. When i turn on vac 2 it sucks well. Now im not sure if vac  1 should be like this?

  Turn it upside down and unbolt and remove the bottom  ...
  Its really quite simple stuff in there  ,  you will be able to see if a hose has come off the vac or hose clip is loose  causing the poor vac suction ..
If you want  , turn the machine on and ( without poking your hand in there )  check for air leaks .
    If the vac sounds rough compared to the other then it could be failing .

From what I remember if you use one vac on the excel you have to block off the exhaust outlet of the vac your not using otherwise the suction will be lost.
You should have a plastic cup to put over it, make sure you block off the right one though !

That would make sense  ...
I figured they would have checkvalves in there .

phone extracta with the serial number and they can tell you the machine age  service record  if any and how to sort out the problem or if it worth repairing or scraping

Will have a look tonight then phone extracta if no luck. If not Will have to try n get rid. Should probably save up and buy a new one lol

It will most probably be it needs the plastic cup,, its a strange arrangement but you cant normally run one vac on the excel without it as the air just sucks through the other vac.

just to clear ... you should be getting full vacuum if you switch on both vac together .
you would seldom use one only anyway unless a vac fail during a job .
Whats likely happening is when you switch on one vac ... the air is escaping through the other vac unless its capped ..

How do i know if im getting full vacuum?  you mean the pressure gauge would be all the
 way up to full? If so its no where near maybe a third of the way  round

If the gauge is in HG  ... it should read about  9

That would be around 8HG ...  would still be about right for possibly aging vacs that were probably 1200w to start with  ..
but it would be good to check internally for leaks ... and at some point put a pair of 1400w 5.7vacs in there  .

Yeah if you only have one vac on you need to block the exhaust on the other.

Just had a quick go with it on carpet.

Vacuum is showing about 8HG, so is probably ok then, ill have a look inside sometime for leaks anyway.
