« on: August 08, 2013, 05:29:22 pm »
I'm going to need two new front tyres soon, but only had them put on last July and done 10k ish on them.

Is that about right? sure doesn't seem it. Maybe they were cheap crap? they was £137 fitted.

It's all those fast getaways once you have been paid Craig.  ;D

It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Lots of different factors to consider to give an answer, what size van, front/rear wheel drive, driving style etc…

Just fitted 2  ultra grip tyres on my van, fitted them on the front, come winter (snow) I will switch them to the back.

Cost me £280.

I have 2 fitted on the rear which are 2yrs old (25k miles) and have more tread left on them than a new set of normal road tyres.

It's a ducato, swb, low roof with TM and an extra large water tank, clean tank is 300 litre.

I think it's the 8 point turns take there toll  ;D

Maybe the tracking is out, though they have worn even.

Could it be the parking at jobs?

I might see how much goodyears will be. Whats on there are called Doublestar.

And there is your answer: Doublestar ::)roll lol. Pay for what you get, for a good tyre you’ll be at least £100 a corner!

Get them from the scrappies. Last tyre I got was a Michelin and its in its 2nd year and still plenty of tread.

Also about 10k a year mainly city driving which is the worst on a tyre.

Usually pay £25 - £35 a tyre and  they'll even fit them for you.

Why? if it has the legal tread and the sides aren't worn. What is the problem? Passed it MOT no problem with two part worn tyres.

I'd only spend £100+ a tyre if it was for my car.

Spend over £100 a time , rears on a front wheel drive van last 50-60k  fronts 30-40k

I find anything else false economy.  Put employees on partworns and you are asking for trouble when they investigate accidents.

Definitely not putting anyone's life at risk by getting part worn tyres, I've had some that could have passed for new. Never failed an MOT and never had a problem with them. They are only classed as part worn because they can't be sold as new. For the price some people are paying for a new tyre I could have four in that space of time all nearly new.

I'm wondering if I would need to call around every garage in the city to find one with my size tyres in stock part worn? can't be a8sed phoning round all day.

It looks like budget tyres have been a false economy, goodyears next.

Where do you think part worns come from. In Germany if your car has a bump no matter how minor all the tyres have to be changed. I believe this is because they believe the stress involved in even a minor bump can compromise a tyres safety. So a lot of these changed tyres end up in the UK part worn trade. Also all cars have different geometry on their suspension so tyre can wear differently from car to car.
You are hurtling down the road at 70 mph and all that is between you and the road is about 12 square inches of rubber. I know I want to be confident that at least that 12 inches of rubber is in good condition.
