I've received a 4040 ro from Gaps Water Treatment today.
I've got a technical query and have emailed them and phoned twice now without a response.  
Anyway the membrane came already fitted in the housing, but in the instructions it says to remove membrane from packaging, insert the membrane into housing blah blah blah.
So I have opened the membrane housing to check everything and membrane is not in a sealed plastic bag (like other 200 gpd membranes I have bought in the past).
It has what looks like black insulation tape wrapped around it, do I have to remove this tape or is it ok to use as it is?.
Please advise!
Im really not impressed with Gaps so far, 2 of the pressure gauges on pre-filter seem faulty and I came home from work at 1.30pm today to find my £500 RO package sat outside the front door when no-one was home.
Courier had just left it there.

The black tape is part of the membrane probably even have a sticker on it

The one I removed was like this so shoved the new one in as is
Runs ok 325 down to 004

I thought it probably was good to go as the seals have silicone grease already applied.
But the instructions don't tell you that!
And I've never had a 4040 membrane before so thought I'd better check incase I ruined it.

Im having a nightmare!

Now on the end of the housing there is a white plastic snap ring that is held in position with a yellow piece of triangular plastic with a lug hole and a threaded screw hole.
I can't get the white plastic snap ring back in place, it was in there before I took it out but seems such a tight fit that it keeps springing back out again.
Can anyone tell me what I need to do please.

If the end cap is properly seated, then fitting the white sealing ring should be straightforward.  That suggests that the end cap isn't properly in.  Assuming everything is in in the right order and the right way round (see next paragraph) give it a tap with a rubber mallet.  If you don't have one, then a hammer with a block of wood between it and the cap.  A gentle tap should do it.

I'm also assuming that you have the rubber sealing ring end of the membrane at the input end of the housing.

Are you sure the pressure gauges are faulty?  They won't register accurately until you have your waste tap slightly shut.

Gaps can't really be blamed if the courier at the end of their delivery chain is a numpty and leaves your gear outside...

Yes thanks for that.
June from Gaps phoned me only 5 minutes after I posted.
Giving the same advice as you have correctly given.
A slight tap with the rubber mallet did knock it home.
Also I incorrectly stated the pressure gauges were not working correctly, as I made that presumption from when I was flushing the pre-filter.
So I was wrong.
Also yes when I emailed Gaps about delivery I didn't blame them but thought they might want to have a word with their courier because I wasn't happy.
Thanks for your help it's appreciated.

ps. I've set it up but no water is coming out with flush valve fully open.
Any ideas before I throw myself under the nearest bus?

Do you suppose that they put a dead threaded hole and an also open threaded hole on each end to sort out who are the stoopidest idiots amongst us?  
















Because the penny has only just dropped!
I didn't think to poke my finger into the hole to see if it were blanked off.

Its good that you are experiencing these problems now - next time when you have to change the membrane, even if its in a few years time, you already know how to do it.

You can't buy that experience.

Do put the assembly instructions you received away in a safe place for future reference. I scanned mine and made a 4040 sub folder in the window cleaning folder under 'My Documents'.
