Too Hot
« on: July 22, 2013, 03:04:56 pm »
Is everyone finding that they are not getting all the days work done due to it being to hot? We are starting slightly earlier but finishing about 1pm.I know our work rate has slowed considerably!

yup, started at 8 but had to come home because my tap was playing up and needed replacing then went out again but by 13 00 me and the dog where too hot and sweaty so went home and watched tv programs and had vodka.

and I am from south Africa but not used to the humidity anymore.

Doing a split shift today. Worked 8am -2pm. Now at home filling the van and will be out working 6pm - until dark. This is only possible because we are cleaning a large local college all week though but it's nice to be sat at home during the hottest part of the day! :)

my work is up to date and completed as usual.during the last few weeks ive just made sure ive got plenty of cold drinks in a freezer box in the van, factor 30 on and sunglasses.oh and a gardiners cap some days! ;) ;D ;D

struggling in hot weather is a good indicator of the overall state of your health.the fitter you are the more you can stand the heat.

im off work most of the next 2 weeks bar a couple of days work due to being up to date.i always have a few days off at the end of the month plus a week off in late july/early august. ;D ;D

i work on average 5 -7 hours "on the glass" a day.

anyway its going to chuck it down tomorrow so thatll give you something to moan about!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
price higher/work harder!

Wear shorts, a t-shirt, drink plenty of water, wear factor 50 sun block, and a hat with a brim.

Add to that a healthy dose of 'man the flip up' and you're sorted for a full days work.

I think it helps if we're not overweight and we're fit too; see the jogging post in the off-topic area for more information.

From HSE website:
HSE previously defined thermal comfort in the workplace, as: 'An acceptable zone of thermal comfort for most people in the UK lies roughly between 13°C (56°F) and 30°C (86°F), with acceptable temperatures for more strenuous work activities concentrated towards the bottom end of the range, and more sedentary activities towards the higher end.'

I did a full day with temperatures peaking at 32 degrees.
Personally I found it uncomfortable to work in, but being self-employed I have little choice.
Mind you I also don't fanny about having cool boxes, factor 50 and flip-flops.... ::)roll

I dont mind working in the heat at all. I worked in the south of france for 3 years in a river gorge, now thats hot!
Just saying with all the extra checking with the possible spotting from the heat and the slower rate of work due to the heat. With all this and the fact all my work is an hour away we are not firing on all 4 cyclinders

Ha ha - yeah sounds like a day out at the beach.

I've been working all day every day through the heat - Yes it gets a bit too much sometimes at around 3pm / 4pm - but it needs to be done for the ££

Give it 3 months and we'll all be asking about what gloves to wear in the winter  ;)
