Did an on-site appraisal. We are WFP. Training by Impact43.
We chose the house we were to clean for the appraisal. My son and I did the course together and cleaned the chosen house together. We chose a cul de sac with a pedestrian path at the end. We 'signed' it up so people could see the warning signs when they walked past. The weather was wet and raining on that day.
My son did the back of the house and I did the front. We walked the examiner round the back first and pointed out the trip hazards that the window cleaner would need to consider when doing the job. For example there are a lot of pot plants around the patio as well as a step up into the garden. So stepping back needed special care. My son used his backpack standing on the ground, so this was also highlighted as a potential trip hazard. He took photos of him working as evidence.
Once he was finished with my son he came round the front and did the same for me. I pointed out hazards and explained why we had put our signage where we had. Although we didn't cordon off the area, a wall and the position of the house ensured that we were situated well within a drop zone should I trip and drop the pole. Photos were also taken of me working.
He also wanted to see what we did with regard to reeling the hose in. It isn't easy to reel a hose in as your attention is layering it on the reel rather than looking for people walking about. As you are working, talk about what you are noticing around you. It reminded us when we took our advanced driver course overseas. As we were driving, we were verbally reporting what we were seeing and made the examiner aware of what hazards could occur as we were coming up to the junction, what car was behind us etc - it was a running commentary
We were only appraised on the one house, although we were prepared to carry on and clean the house next door if need be.
Before the appraiser arrived, I confirmed with the house owner what was happening and got her approval for the test to be done on her property. She was quite excited about this and we did the job for nothing as a thank you, despite her wanting to pay for it.
It took a while for the certificate to come and she asked on several subsequent cleans if we past or not. She was actually quite thrilled that she was part of the process when we eventually did get our certificates.
