I'm changing one of our vans and think I've decide on either the vw crafter or the sprinter I know they both use the same chassis and cab model also should I go lwb or mwb I'd prefer a mwb but I need to be able to get my pressure washer in the back sometimes

Also Simon or Glynn can you please let me know how you persuaded Hydramaster to put the machine on top of the water tank cause they have in the past refused to do it for me

Hi Dave, I have the Merc lwb, and being honest I would prefer the mwb.
I have the fresh tank slightly forward of the rear wheels,
and when full the front end does skip a bit on corners which isnt great.

Been thinking about submounting the machine on top of the tank, would give more
room, then might look at getting the taller narrower reel for over passenger rear wheel arch.

Dont know much about the Crafter, but sure being a VW it should be reliable.

Not all VW's have problems, but a greater percentage of them will go wrong compared to say a Honda or a Mazda.

get the sprinter there much better don't be fooled buy the vw thing as the crafter is pants  , don't get the lwb , it rocks to much at 100 mph will have you off the road in a jiffy we had six of them on dhl and the mwb were better all round

we still got an old v reg one lwb with 900k on the clock !

be warned they like a drink when your giving it some 313 better on fuel then the 311 , stop away from the 316 unless you like 14 to the gallen

we liked the transit jumbo  better 140 bhp and went like a rocket,  how ever if buying new the transit must be taken for undersealing somewhere other then ford or  it will rot on the drive once under sealed there better then the sprinter

cheaper to buy , cheaper to run , and the seats are better making it easyer to drive we had 10 at one stage  on city link and there got beaten to death and took it very well

 some of use have done more miles in one year then most people do in ten years , having run a world wide light haul company ive seen hubby doing over a 100 mph on geman roads in a lwb sprinter (2.  ! fully loaded I think that year he did 135k in that van ,

not sure where you drive but going up and down to Essex 4 times a month a offent see vans tonning it down the road mostly them sports traffic things but still a few sprinters holding there own

no some of us have just had a life outside of carpet cleaning and the be all and end all of life isn't what wand you have  but at 30 what would you know you done nothing yet

The suspension on the VW / Mercs is soft.  Put anywhere near the max load on them and they look over weight plus the rock around.  The Transit would be a far better choice followed by the Renault / Vauxhall.

best putting an extra leaf in the back springs to sort this when carrying a truck mount in a sprinter , we did this to all of ours enableing use to run way over weight , however when there empty there a bugger to drive in the wet with the extra spring in the rear  as it pushes the rear end up buy around 4inc  move the weight off the rear end but wont be a problem running with a tm fitted

if you like the rest of the pansys on here and bang on and on about the weight you carry then mwb it is as the lwb sprinter and transit jumbos will only carry around 1200 kgs a bit less if you get the top end ones with air con fitted ours were down to around 1100 kgs by the time the T-bars were fitted along with the slam locks ect ect

i run lwb sprinter and its fine 80mph fully loaded its done 143000 and tramps on like a train never had any problems althou i have heard the crafters can be troublsome but i suppose so can any van if its not looked after.....
