what van for £4000-£5000?

im planning on getting a new van next year.the kangoo has been great for the last 3 and half years but its too small really for all my equipment and tank.ive outgrown it.

i was thinking of a ford transit connect 230 LWB but i still think it might be a tad small?

im looking at putting a 500L TANK in a cage in the back,4 poles,trad equipment,brushes etc

what vans have you guys got and how much did they cost you?i have 9 years NCD and a full clean licence.whats the commercial van insurance like on say a vivaro/renault trafic?

Hi daz
I use a fiat scudo, for a one man band its perfect as has a 900 kg payload.  I have a 500 litre tank plus poles and trad gear, also a gutter vac and my pressure washer at times and still have room. Its small enough for easy parking too.

I paid £3000 two years ago and its on a 56 plate

Our Vivaro was £4k (no vat) 3 years ago, on a 06 plate. Has done nearly 120k now though so will need replacing soon, will probably go down the brand new route.

Great van, no complaints, it just sailed through its MOT! It did have a new gearbox 2 years ago at a cost of £900 though but that wouldn't deter me from buying another.

Insurance wise I now pay £62 per month for 2 of us (I've got 6 points and 4 years NCB). Last year our insurance was £125 per month.

650 litre tank fits in nicely and keeps the 2 of us working for 6+ hours (when I've sorted the leak on my reel)!

thanks danny.when we meet up next week ill show you my reel connectors.they are great!.no leaks whatsoever!the new gardiner QR ones.very heavy duty.well worth £15 for both male and female ends.

you ve got loads of mileage left in that van mate!my kangoo has done 140,000 and still going strong!!.....and its errr........13 years old!! ;D

i think your van looks great danny.mind you i only do around 3000 miles a year due to very compact work and having a car for evenings and weekends! ;D

Hardly too many poles!just right for a sole trader id say! ;D

If I had a better van id probably take on work further afield if its a good paying job!!!

Low mileage equals less repair costs,less fuel used,more time cleaning windows than driving around. ;D.

I have Ford Transit, but like someone mentioned Scudo, I have had one of those and it was very good during the time I had it.

i had a swb med roof transit and it was awesome, had it 3 years and it was a 57 plate, pity you never wanted a new one last month as the robbing gits only gave me 4k part ex for it

toyota hiace in that price range you would be buying a van for life. had mine 2 years and replaced a side light bulb 42,000 miles a year, undistructable!!!!!

MWB high roof tranny, you can have a party in it !!! Can't fault it. Room for my 650 litre tankl, two reels laid out, ladders carried onboard loads of poles, trad gear racked out, chemical racks, cloth racks and a jet wash on board  ;D My mate runs three swb low roof ones, great for getting your kit in but a squeeze for anything other than that. Mercedes Vito looks a good one, just got one for a dedicated jet wash van, nice compact size for one operator.

also to keep on topic,
ive got a Citreon Dispatch with a 500 ltr tank, great van for a one man band, but make sure you get the 2.0 hdi as the non turbo 1.9 is gutless

I had to replace a bulb this year - must be a common fault with them.

you get a swb 09 reg transit one owner , 55k-70k ,they will be the 300 and loaded with air con ect ect and change out of 5k
