It's nice when they come back
« on: July 11, 2013, 07:06:30 pm »
A customer dropped me a while ago. The husband said, "I bought one of them pole things and i'm going to do them myself". Ok I thought and adjusted the job list...

Tonight the wife calls me - the husband is too embarrassed i'm gusesing - "Can I have you back, and I've got another customer for you". "Sure" me says, "but can I ask why"?

The wife says, "It's too hard work and it leaves spots all over the window".

"Well I did wonder" I says as I p*ss myself and add her back to the list.

You've gotta larf!

When you've finished laughing, don't forget to increase the price a little bit.  ;D

Those windows will probably have hard water staining now you do realise? I'm not sure how long it would take for this to happen cleaning them with unpurified tap water though? Because i'm guessing they didn't buy a D.I For inbetween the ouside tap and pole?

The last clean was the 8th March. I'd be surprised if there are hard water marks that wouldn't come off with WFP. I've got some Cillit Bang if needs be.

Sure I could have refused her, but i'm a businessman. I can laugh to myself every time I take her £15 - much more satisfying in the long run and this way she's my ambassador as she's already got me 2 jobs in the past :-)

Because they either want you, or they don't.

Personally, I would see them as a messer, and refuse to offer a stop start stop start service to them due to being in such high demand with other customers.

Do what you what you like mind, im just saying what i'd do.

I've had quite a few customers over the years cancel because 'hubbies going to do them himself' type thing and then as per above, months later I get a phone call.

I've found they usually then end up being rock solid customers and as already mentioned, why turn down money?

If the customer then starts messing about with 'not this time' and all that, then dump them but it's a bit silly to just assume they will be a bit of a problem before starting cleaning their windows again.

It'll teach them for cancelling the first place tho wont it  ;D

Take them back then on the condition you get a brew in the winter and a pint of squash in the summer  ;)

Strangley enough, I've found that sometimes after agreeing a price with the customer that saying that there is one further condition of me cleaning your windows which is 'the statutory cup of tea brewed to perfection' often seals the deal, so to speak, and is a great way to conclude things.

It doesn't work with all customers but I've found the ones who smile when I say that often turn out to be good customers.

we had one yesterday , we have been cleaning her windows for 5 years and the price as been stuck at 12 pounds
all that time  so when she cancelled 5 months ago I was gutted as we do the full street 12 house

but she now as rejoin at 18 pounds she wasn't happy but as I told her we cant do it for less as all our customers pay this and if she had not of canselled she would of still be getting her loyalty discount

When a customer cancels because the husband going to do the windows themselves, I always ask "You do have my number for when he can't be bothered in a couple of months?"
 They mostly call back.

This is the only reason I can think of that I take someone back on. I had one that did do his own windows for seven years and he admitted that it was too much bother and asked me to go back. It was 2006 and £6 when he cancelled - now it's £12.

Another one left in 2009 and came back in 2011 when he was terminally ill and after he died in 2012 I continue for his widow.

Cant blame people for trying to save a few quid we all do it.
As long as they where good paying customers before they left then why not
take them back if you have the time.

We had one regular customer cancel us and she said that they were going to be cleaning their own windows for a bit while they bought and refurbed the house next door for holiday let - doubted we'd ever see her again but about a year later she called and said that they were now open for business and could we clean both houses monthly - that was about 5 years ago and it's going well.
