Update from stepdad working from car!
« on: July 11, 2013, 04:57:16 pm »
In th boot is the pure freedom trolley and a 100m metal hose reel side by side, 8 barrels in back behind front seats and on the back seat, using it by changing the feed from barrel to barrel when water runs out Instead of trailing trolley around all day. Hose reel is perfect height in boot to reel in and out to job just as it is in my vanmounts in fact the only niggle is having to stop to change barrel every few houses but untill he gets a van it will do the job nicely. So far so good as they say. i have him out doing some first cleans after showing him the ropes for 3 days, not sure if thats a good thing or not but we will see!!.

Funny you should say that george .. He is worried that it will be such hard work lol, i explained how easy it is after the first grueling cleans that its like cleaning an already clean house which made him feel much better and confident in it.

Is it right he's only doing about 10 a day all fronts?
If so he'll be done in a couple of hours I reckon.
Nice days work ;D

Yeah, i think it would be a concern for any new start up  ;). Plus you also might want to tell him (if you already haven't) Once he get a proper van mount, the job will be even easier due to not have to lift and mess around with barrells all the time!

That's a good idea not having him lift the trolley in and out. I lived with a 'raised hip' for 17 months due to lifting trolley in and out.
Unless your stepdad doesn't like being outside, he will be pleasantly surprised at what an incredibly fantastic thing you have done for him.
Priceless!!!

fair play to you ;)

Split the feed pipe so that it draws from two barrels at the same time.

Yes mainly £10 fronts with a few £12/£15 full houses, few £20 etc but focusing on fronts as a whole.. When you guys say split the hose do you mean add a t piece so pump can suck from 2 barrels??. I wouldnt have though that would work but happy days that it does.. Will be linking them up for next time... Cheers

Better still use 15mm pushfit pipe and feed from 4 barrells at once. Drill a hole in the lids and drop a pipe into each one. Put an elbow or tee on the bottom so the pipe doesnt stick to the bottom of the barrel. Connect the pipes with t pieces and an elbow on the last one. Make sure all 4 are on the same level/height as each other. Connect the 15mm pipe to the suction pipe of the trolley with push fits and you can use the same pipework to fill all 4 barrels at once with purified.

wont linking 4 together depend on the ability of the pump to pull.. if one of the barrels empties first wont this stop the pull from the other 3?

A compromise system would be as above but a snap fit connector on the wand in each barrel so that when you do change its just a case of detaching and refitting the feed pipe. That would reduce spillage inside the car if you used an endstop connector

Jim-it may, but in theory they would all empty at the same rate.

The ones nearest the pump should empty slightly quicker than the others.
So after awhile you might draw air in.
You won't empty all the barrels equally but you will work
longer without having to go back to the car ;D
