Looking to start out
« on: July 06, 2013, 08:46:25 am »
Hi

I'm thinking of adding on window cleaning to my existing business. I currently do wheelie bin cleaning and need something to fill the days I'm not that busy.

What would be a good entry level pole and system. I'm looking at trolly mounted and keeping the tank and filters in a garage as I already have a tank fitting for wheelie bin cleaning.

Ideally looking to start off under £1000 brand new or second hand, it doesn't have to turn over vast amounts of money fast as its an add on so can build up a good quality round over time.

What's the most common time period people have it done 4weekly / 8 weekly / 12 weekly

Any other information starting out would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Ashley

Ashley, just had a quick look at your website and it doesn't seem to open properly on my laptop. Couldn't see what areas you covered apart from your contact address.  :)

Hi we cover the Telford in Shropshire. We do a few others services and are always asked to do the full lot and do windows as well so thought it would be a good time to look into it fully
Thanks

firstly check the tds of the water that you have, this will determine weather you need a ro system and then a di vessel or two di vessels in a row alone.
if you need a ro system i would recommend getting a 450 gpd one which will be good enough for what you want by far i run a round of 400 customers on one the companies that sell them are adaqua , pure freedom and gaps. next for a di vessel you can use a small di polishing unit the same companies sell these, also buy some tulision resin and a tds meter.
you will want a static tank, if you have any farmers etc around you will be able to get an ibc tank quite cheep, empty your pure water into here and your waste down the drain. buy a transfer pump (dirty water sub pump) people use expensive however argos are fine and this will transfer your water from your holding tank to your barrels or your van tank. for the system you could go with a pure freedom trolly these are expensive, the benifit being that you can take them apart and use them as a van mount if you decide to go that way.  as you are running window cleaning as an add on i would buy a big boy backpack from the window cleaning warehouse and strap it to a sack barrow this will save you hundreds of pounds, your pour your barrels into the backpack, people run full rounds like this, it will do great as an add on. as for your most important piece of equipment (the pole) you dont want to go cheap on, there are some good companies out there ie pheonix, gardiners or xline, i would strongly reccomend gardnier pole systems as will most one here, as a starter pole i would go for a clx 25 which will reach most of everything, when you get bigger you can always buy an slx which is more rigid and lighter but the clx is a great pole which you can work all day with, a brush (well gardiners sell loads) extreemes are very good. now to save water i reccomend you buy an aquadapter with the orange pole hose it will stop you emptying the backpack quickly and you can turn the water off with a tug of the hose. i think this should help you

Thanks for the info.

I will look into a backpack to see if it will be easier and quicker than a trolly for shorter journeys.

I will look and get a Tds meter first to see which system ill need, I've got a spare 650l tank so ill use that and just get the ro and di vessels separately to keep in the garage.

sounds good, the backpack is the way to go mate, if your going to use your 650 tank get a sub pump to transfer the water from gardiner pole systems they will sell you a small transfer pump and the opening in the lid is too small for most normal size

I think I'm going to build a frame to take the water tank off the ground and transfer it Into containers for the van via a tap from the bottom. Saves on a pump and stops the bottom freezing in the winter

that would work but would be a lot slower the bottom wont freeze in a 650 litre tank just the top which you can break
