I'm After A New Van!
« on: July 04, 2013, 06:54:44 pm »
Hi everyone. I'm after a second van if anyone is selling one soon. I'm not in an immediate rush, so can afford to be choosy. Must be white, have a two man setup or have the potential to be. 5K is my budget. I don't want high miles and don't need one with poles etc. Apart from that, I'm not fussy.

The cash is waiting....

Thank you!

I would of thought with the type of work you do your requirements would be more specific?
Able to carry a large size water tank?
Payload important?
I've seen 2 man systems in small vans (Berlingo's ) etc.  ;D

It makes no odds at this point Andy. I already have a large van with 1000L tank. I can send that to solar farms and the new one to smaller solar jobs or it can just keep my windows, gutters and pressure washing ticking over.

I have 4 guys wanting to work in a 3 seater van and that ain't easy!  ;D The new van will be handy on big solar jobs, but not essential. I can go pricing in the new one whilst the lads work from the big one too. :)

Thanks for that. Seems to load fine for the vast majority of people. It's undergoing an overhaul and will have a brand new look in a couple of weeks. It will be running on a different system too so it should rectify any problems. Thanks for letting me know though.  :)

Oh! I thought you had finished paying for it LAST Christmas, sorry!  If I've not found anything by then, which I hope to have done, I will let you know. Thanks Tony. :)

Steve  why dont you look at getting a 4x4 , Your solar jobs are off road so in wet muddy conditions you will manage without problems were a van would not .

A L200 for instance has a 1120 kg so you could get a good size tank in and all the gear you need , I have an L200 Trojan which has the smaller load bed which takes a 400ltr flat tank .

The L200 warrior will take a 600ltr flat tank , Load beds have plastic liners usually so put a tank straight in strap it down put a couple of pump boxes in and away you go .

You could get a good Truck with truck top for £4,000 or less . Mike

Put your hand in your pocket or get a loan and get yourself a Hyundai iload comfort. Preferably new. Cuz no-one seems to want to part with them yet for secondhand!

Maybe a crew cab version if you go surfing!  ;D

Hi mike. A 4x4 is a great idea, one I had not even considered. I will be looking into it further. One of my best mates has a warrior and is coming by this afternoon. I will take a look at it with a view to work. Nice one mate! Thanks! :)

Mike i like the sound of your trojan L200.

I always thought i couldn't afford one of these.

So £5000 for 5 year old one or have i misread?

How do you find petrol is it quite thirsty.

Also how do you find tax and insurance.

thanks lee

Solar Steve your welcome having a look at your mates will give you a good idea of the room in the back etc .

Lee you would have to look on Autotrader for prices in your area .

My L200 is just under 3 yrs old  and its diesel mine does about 30-33 mpg fully loaded carrying 500-600 kg with the usual stopping and starting between jobs .

On a weekend when my water tank is nearly empty we can go for a long drive and it hardly uses any fuel , I put £60 a week in diesel and get 250-265 miles out of it but i do floor it a bit .

Insurance just over a £1,000 with 4 yrs no claims with me and wife on insurance , Road tax is £220 for the year

It is classed as a LGV commercial vehicle so can put all vehicle expenses down . Mike

Thanks Mike.

Insurance is fairly high but maybe i'm older than you i'm 42 and have 9 years NCD.

Fuel economy is better than i thouht and road tax is the same as my old 01 plate ford escort.

Thanks very much for that info Mike.  ;)
