1000lts butt
« on: July 03, 2013, 03:49:57 pm »
HI all

I need some help ?  ;D

What I would like to know is this if you live in a hard water area and had a 1000lts of water in an IBC tank what is the best RO you can get for it

The fastest filling system and what is the waste water ratio

I know its best to fill from a tap but the water is in butt.

I'm a bit confused with what you are asking.

Your r/o choice is dependant on the amount of water you use a day. So if you use 500 litres of pure, then a 50GPD r/o won't be sufficient.

We started with a 450GPD r/o processing water into the IBC tank and transferring to the vans as required. That was sufficient for the 2 of us - I filled up in the evening and son filled up in the morning. As he only worked 4 days a week it gave us a little to play with. We also started the week with full vans and a full IBC tank. By the time Friday came in the winter, it was a "take what you need for the day" rule.

The r/o operation was controlled by a solenoid valve and float switch in the tank, so it switched itself on and off with no human input, other than to flush the membranes from time to time. The r/o had a restrictor which was a 3 to 1 ratio - 3 waste to 1 pure.

We upgraded the r/o to a 4040 last year as the r/o wouldn't keep up with the needs of a third user. The 4040 produces about 120 litres of pure an hour with a ratio of 1 to 1 - 1 waste to 1 pure. The r/o is controlled by the same solenoid valve and again the only attention it gets is prefilter changes and regular flushing.

Our water tds at the tap is around 120 -125 ppm and after r/o 2-3. That water is then polished off after the r/o so is stored pure in the IBC tank. This means that we don't have to carry a di vessel in each van. This sytem has worked like this for the last 7 years.

Thank you spruce for the reply.

sorry I was not clear ........ OK I have been asked to do a job away from home it is a big job and there is no water tap at all  ::)roll The boss had said that he will buy in 1000lts IBC tanks but wants to know how much pure water you will get from them ?

Now I have a 200 GPD one and the water is a bout 1-3   3 times the waste to 1 pure water ( you know what I mean )

so because the water is being brought in I need to know how much water will you get from a IBC tank and then that way we know how much to order in....

Thanks

use a big DI only and it will give you 1000L but be expensive.
depending on what the water tds on site is., will be how long your DI will last.
you will need to pump it through the DI.

or find somewhere local and just buy it daiy

+1
If you cannot afford to waste any of the water the DI is the only way.
Will be expensive but just add the cost of the resin to the price of the job.

If he is going to bring it in by bowser ("order it in") then you will also need to pressurise that water before r/o. I would have also thought that a 200GPD r/o would be too slow for what you want to do.

If he orders water in, then you may have no choice but to process your water through a large di vessel with using resin only as has been suggested.  Your customer won't understand the filtering issue. I would fill my van tank with unfiltered water and then pump this from my van through the di, hose reel and then to the brush as I was doing the job as a first consideration - obviously this depends on your setup and the situation on site.

I don't know your setup, but if you have a van mount, then the first tank taken be taken with you to get you going.
